GALESBURG, Ill. – Knox College secured it first Midwest Conference men’s soccer regular season championship since 1988 on Saturday with a 1-0 overtime victory over St. Norbert College, and with Illinois College’s 1-0 win over Carroll University.
Saturday’s victory over the Green Knights was Knox’s 12
th in a row and ran their record to 13-2-0 overall and 8-0-0 in conference play. Because Knox is the regular season champion, they will serve as the host and be the top-seed in the 2014 MWC Men’s Soccer Tournament. The Prairie Fire are 7-0-0 at home so far this season.
The Prairie Fire lead the Midwest Conference in shutouts (9) and goals per game (2.71) while two-time MWC Offensive Performer of the Week Nathaniel Logie leads the league in points (23), goals (11), and game-winning goals (5). Goalkeeper Sean Dockrell, who was named Defensive Performer of the Week earlier this season, leads the MWC with nine shutouts.
