ROCKFORD, Ill. – On a chilly, windy day at Aldeen Golf Club, Grinnell College battled the elements and grabbed an eight stroke lead over second place Monmouth College after 18 holes of the 54 hole Midwest Conference Women's Golf Championship. Lake Forest College’s Allie Girard had the low round of the day with an 83.
Day 1 Results
Kayleigh Kresse led the Pioneers with a 13-over 86 and she was closely followed by teammates Hailey Speck and Alex Plemmons who both shot 91s. Kresse is currently in third while Speck and Plemmons are tied for fourth. Lauren Yi finished the scoring for Grinnell on day one with a 102, giving the Pioneers a team total of 370.
Monmouth’s Annie Sandrock is tied with Speck and Plemmons in fourth after she shot a team-best 91. Anne Begley sits in eighth with a 93, and teammates Breanne Ford and Megan Shultz are tied for 10
th after they both shot 97s.
Alexis Lintker’s 85, good for second on the day, has the Lady Blues of Illinois College in third out of the six teams. Hannah Strike shot a 100 to finish second on the team and tie for 17
th overall. Emily Heiser (101) and Carly Hamilton (102) also factored into the scoring for the Lady Blues, who are 18 shots off the pace set by Grinnell.
Carroll University’s Leah Stapleman is tied for 10
th after the first 18 holes with a 97. In 13
th is Rachel Meyer (98) and just one stroke behind her are teammates Alison Van Grinsven and Lauren Roethlisberger. As a team, the Pioneers are in fourth with a combined score of 393.
The Green Knights of St. Norbert College are in fifth after Friday’s opening round with a score of 400. Taylor Debski (seventh) and Rebecca Simpson (ninth) both cracked the top-10 after shooting a 92 and a 95, respectively.
The tournament’s lowest score on Friday belonged to Lake Forest sophomore Allie Girard (83). However, the Foresters find themselves in sixth after the opening 18 holes. Alex Dunn was second on the squad with a 101, and Frankie Corrado came in with a 104. Brooke Perkins completed the scoring with a 117.
Ripon College's lone entry, Abby Fish, is tied for 19th after shooting a 101.
Tomorrow’s second round tees off at 10:00 a.m. at Aldeen Golf Club in Rockford, Ill.
