ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Grinnell College women’s golf team increased its lead to 11 strokes over second place Monmouth College, while Ripon College’s Abby Fish jumped up 10 places after she tied with Grinnell’s Hailey Speck for the low-round of the day at 89 at the 2014 Midwest Conference Women’s Golf Championship.

Monmouth shot nine strokes better than it did on Friday, but were still bested by Grinnell for the low team round (366-369). Grinnell’s Kayleigh Kresse shot a 90 in her second round to pull her into a tie with Lake Forest College’s Alllie Girard at 176. Speck’s 89 has her just four strokes off the lead in third. Also in the top-10 for Grinnell is Alex Plemmons in sixth (183) and Lauren Yi factored into the scoring on day two with a 95.
Monmouth’s Annie Sandrock currently sits in fifth overall after back-to-back 91s. Four of Monmouth’s golfers are in the top-10 overall. Joining Sandrock, are Anne Begley in seventh (187) and Korri Crawford and Megan Shultz who are tied with Ripon’s Fish in ninth (190).
Illinois College remained third in the standings after 36 holes. Emily Heiser had the low round for the Lady Blues on Saturday at 90 and is in 12
th on the individual leaderboard. Alex Lintker fell two spots to fourth on the leaderboard after a 96, but she remains the low scorer for Illinois College. Carly Hamilton shot a 100, two strokes better than Friday, today while Hannah Strike finished with a 107.
The Pioneers of Carroll University are in fourth overall with a two day total of 785. Rachel Meyer shot a team-best 95 on Saturday and is currently 13
th after the second round. Leah Stapelmen and Taryn Kluess both shot 98s today and they sit at 16
th and tied for 17
th, respectively. Karoline Pirko rounded out Carroll’s top-four with a 101.
Girard continues to lead Lake Forest, but shot a 93 to fall into a tie with Kresse. Alex Dunn bested her round yesterday by four strokes (97-101) for a two-day total of 198, which is good for 19
th. Frankie Corrado also improved on yesterday’s round and fired a 99 on Saturday. Aly Skoczek completed the Foresters scoring with a 104. As a team, Lake Forest improved by 13 strokes to leap St. Norbert College.
The Green Knights have a 36-hole total of 804 after shooting a 404 on Saturday. Taylor Debski is St. Norbert’s lone representative in the top-10, as she is currently in eighth with a total of 188. Lauren Roethlisberger jumped up three spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 14
th, with teammate Rebecca Simpson, after firing a 94. Margaret Uselman rounded out the Green Knights’ top-four scores with a 115.
The third and final round of the 2014 Midwest Conference Women’s Golf Championship tees off at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Aldeen Golf Club.
