GRINNELL, Iowa – Carroll University had four of the top six finishers in Saturday’s 2014 Midwest Conference Men’s Cross Country Championship, including individual champion Isaac Jordan, however the Pioneers were edged by Grinnell College’s depth 54-65.
Results
Grinnell won its third consecutive team title and its 30
th overall. The Pioneers were led by junior Adam Dalton, who finished second (25:49.24) and Anthony McLean who took third (25:54.69). Also making the 2014 All-MWC Team, which includes the top-20 finishers, was Evan Griffith (11
th, 26:18.78) and Zach Angel (26:21.82).
Issac Jordan became the second individual champion (25:39.82) from Carroll, and the first since 1999, on Saturday and head coach Shawn Thielitz was named the 2014 Midwest Conference Coach of the Year. The trio of Adam Joerres, Jacob Sundberg, and Chris Pynenberg, finished 4-5-6 to aid the Pioneer effort.
Lake Forest College made a huge improvement from 2013 as the Foresters went from seventh to third in the team standings and recorded its highest finish ever. Mansure Soeleman was one of four representatives from Lake Forest on the All-MWC Team. Soeleman finished in eighth with a time of 26:11.66. Sintayehu Regassa finished in 14
th (26:25.95) for the Foresters, just ahead of teammate John Derry who came in 15
th. Jonathan Stern was the fourth and final runner for Lake Forest to grab all-conference honors after finishing in 18
th (26:34.20).
Lawrence University came in fourth after finishing with 117 points including two all-conference members. Max Edwards led the hosts with a 10
th place finish (26:20.38) and Kyle Dockery finished in 12th (26:24.02). Cam Davies (22
nd, 26:38.93), Jonah Lauresen (26
th, 26:59.34) and Teddy Korenhof (55
th, 28:06.44) also factored into the scoring for Lawrence.
Lawrence Dennis led Cornell College to a fifth place finish after he finished seventh overall (26:10.18). Charlie Mesimore finished 17
th (26:33.59) for the Rams as they had two all-conference runners. St. Norbert College’s Dan Reigh was the top-runner for the Green Knights and finished in 13
th (26:25.45) to earn an all-conference medal. St. Norbert finished sixth in the team standings with 121 points.
Beloit College came in seventh as a team and was led by Jacob Gray. Gray came in 19
th (26:34.76) was the lone Buccaneer to earn all-conference honors, but teammate Alberto Torres finished just outside the top-20 in 21
st (26:38.32).
Rob Waters led Ripon College to an eighth place finish after finishing 16
th individually (26:32.66). Ezekiel Jere (28
th, 27:07.65) was the top-finisher for ninth place Knox College while Sam Welbourne (41
st, 27:46.19) led the way for Illinois College who came in 10
th.
Monmouth College did not score as a team, however Cooper Pauley took 30
th individually (27:22.41).
