GRINNELL, Iowa – James Wilson and DeAndre Smith both were named Outstanding Athletes of the Meet and Roger Haynes was named Men’s Coach of the Year as Monmouth College won the Midwest Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship for the 14
th consecutive season.

Wilson had a huge weekend for the Fighting Scots. He won the long jump (23’4 ¾”), the 200-meter dash (21.72), and was a member of the winning 4x100-meter relay team along with teammates Adam Parr, Eric Brown, and Kiante Green. That squad set a new Midwest Conference record in the event after they blew away the field (41.24). Wilson also placed second in the 100-meter dash (11.18) to Green (11.12).
Smith won the discus with a heave of 147’2” and placed second in the hammer throw (157’4”) and the shot put (53’ ¼”). Smith was bested in the shot by a record-breaking performance by Zach Beek of Ripon College (54’10”).
Monmouth’s 4x400-meter relay team of Ben Markison, Garrett Daniel, Raimius Foulkes and Ethan Reschke also was tops on the podium after winning in a time of 3:16.57. Scott Duncan completed the haul for the Fighting Scots in the javelin after a 182’3” launch.
Monmouth scored 209.67 points, while St. Norbert College came in second with 158.33. The Green Knights’ Taylor Pasterski was also named Outstanding Athlete of the Meet. Pasterski won the 400-meter dash in 48.3 and finished second in the 200-meter dash (22.15). St. Norbert’s 4x100-meter relay team of Pasterski, Tyler Lewis, Colin O’Brien and Ryan Grandlic finished second (42.61) to the Fighting Scots.
St. Norbert also got top finishes from freshman Austin Livingston in the 800-meter run (1:54.86), Jack Feuerstein in the 400-meter hurdles (55.18), and Randy Hill in the triple jump (46’5 ¼”).
Carroll University placed third with 94 points due in part to Dakota Pruitt’s big weekend. Pruitt won the 1,500-meter run on Friday (3:56.61). This afternoon he won the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:34.22) by eight seconds over Hayden Hoffmann of Ripon.
Grinnell College placed fourth with 80 points and the Pioneers Frank Canady was named an Outstanding Athlete of the Meet after he won the 10,000-meter run (31:40.99) and the 5,000-meter run (15:21.54).
Ripon's Beek was named an Outstanding Athlete of the Meet after his record-breaking performance in the shot put to lead the Red Hawks to a fifth place finish with 78 points. Beek also placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 140'6".
Illinois College freshman John Piper claimed the 110-meter hurdle title (15.34) after edging out JP Ranumas of Lawrence University by .23 seconds.
