Carroll Picked to Win Men’s Soccer in 2014

GRINNELL, Iowa – Carroll University received 86 points to top the 2014 Midwest Conference Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Poll as the Pioneers just nudged out St. Norbert College (84) and Lake Forest College (83). 

The Pioneers received two first place votes and six second place votes to garner the most points after finishing second in the MWC in 2013. St. Norbert, fresh off an appearance in the MWC Tournament Championship game, came in second with four second place and third place votes.  Despite a league-high six first place votes, two-time defending champion Lake Forest comes in third. 

Knox College has been selected to finish in fourth again in 2014 after garnering 75 points, while Grinnell College earned a first place vote and was slotted fifth with 66 points. 

Monmouth College earned 56 points to finish sixth, while Lawrence University finished just behind with 53 points.  Illinois College led by new head coach Tyler Sheikh (43 points) and Ripon College (28 points) were selected eighth and ninth, while Beloit and Cornell, with new head man Nate Grosse round out the poll with 22 and 13 points, respectively. 

The men’s soccer preview will be released on Tuesday August 26, with the season kicking off on Friday August 29.
