GRINNELL, Iowa – Sophomore forward Emily Snider of Cornell College was named the Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week and senior defender Kaitlyn Lueck of Ripon College took Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Snider led the Rams to a 15-0 season-opening rout Friday at Rockford in head coach Leslie Oskey’s first game. The Ram sophomore scored four goals on five shot attempts and also accounted for four assists in a match that was 12-0 by halftime. Snider’s four assists are tied for fifth-best in conference history and her 12 points tied her mark last season for second-best all-time in the MWC. Teammate Bethany Stivers also had a big day as she found the back of the net five times.
Lueck played a critical role in Friday’s 6-0 shutout victory at Lakeland College. She led a defense that allowed just six shots by the Muskies with three coming in each half.
As a league, the Conference finished the first weekend of action with a 7-7-1 combined record. Illinois College, under the direction of new head coach Linda Hamilton, came away with two victories in its weekend trip in Iowa. The Lady Blues defeated Coe College in double overtime on Friday night and dismantled Iowa Wesleyan 12-0 on Saturday.
Lake Forest College and Grinnell College both started off the season 1-0, while Beloit College remains unbeaten at 1-0-1. The Foresters beat Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday 2-1, while Grinnell squeaked by Simpson in double overtime on a goal by Dabney Hofammann in head coach Kirsten Russell’s debut.
