Midwest Conference Announces Academic All-Conference

GRINNELL, Iowa - The Midwest Conference (MWC) has announced its Academic All-Conference honorees for the 2014-15 season which includes student-athletes who represent the MWC’s 11 institutions in 20 sports.

The criteria to become an Academic All-Conference selection includes a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.33 which is calculated only in the awarded academic year. Freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors who letter in any of the MWC’s fall, winter or spring sports are eligible for the award.

Of the award winners this year 299 of them were multi-sport winners.  A total of 167 recipients were honored in two sports, while 130 were awarded in three sports and two lettered in four.  Including those multi-sport winners, the conference handed out 1,858 certificates which surpasses the 1,752 awarded last academic year.

Grinnell College placed a league-high 286 on the list, including 112 in the fall season, the most of any school in any season. Carroll University finished with 225 recipients while St. Norbert College was third with 221 award winners, including 31 football players, the most any one team had honored.  Illinois College followed with 172 winners, with Beloit College rounding out the top-five with 164.

Lawrence University was behind them with 153 honorees. Monmouth College (133) and Knox College (130) were next on the list, while Cornell College earned 122. Ripon College (116) and Lake Forest College (115) rounded out the institutions.

Football earned 193 Academic All-Conference winners which were the most of any sport in the league followed by women’s indoor track & field (163) and women’s outdoor track & field (158). Women’s soccer checked in with 134 award winners and women’s cross country completed the top-five with 109. 

Fall sports accounted for 784 honorees followed by winter (555) and spring (521) in the 2014-15 academic year.
