GRINNELL, Iowa – With a preseason ranking of No. 14 in the country and the return of five all-region selections from last season’s team, which went undefeated in the regular season, the Lake Forest College women’s soccer team has been picked to top the Midwest Conference standings in the annual Preseason Coaches’ Poll.
The Foresters received the maximum number of 10 votes and achieved a perfect 100 points in the poll. The Midwest Conference Tournament is expected to have the same field as 2014 as Carroll University was selected second (82 points), Ripon College finishing third (78 points) and Grinnell College picked fourth (76). The Red Hawks earned the other first place vote.
St. Norbert College finished just behind Grinnell in fifth (74 points). Lawrence University is expected to improve in 2015, earning 53 points to finish sixth. Monmouth College is picked seventh with 39 points, with Illinois College just behind them with 38 points.
Completing the poll were Cornell College (28 points), Knox College (27 points) and Beloit College (16 points).
Voting is done by the MWC’s head coaches. Each coach votes for the 10 other schools in the conference in order of predicted finish. Points are assigned in reverse order of voting (10 points for first, nine for second, etc.). Coaches do not vote for their own teams.
