Week Nine Football Performers of the Week

GRINNELL, Iowa – For the second consecutive week, Lake Forest College’s Joey Valdivia and Alex Pasiewicz have been named the Offense and Special Teams Performers of the Week, respectively, while Monmouth College’s Logan Gigl earned the Defensive honor. 

Weekly Notes

Valdivia continued his assault on the school record books during Lake Forest's 55-17 victory over Knox on Saturday. He rushed for 203 yards and scored touchdowns on six of his 14 carries in the contest. The six touchdowns matched the program record and he moved into first place in team history with 36 rushing touchdowns in his career. In addition, his 14.5 yards per carry on the day is the highest single-game mark in team annals. Valdivia continues to lead the nation in touchdowns and has also moved into first place in the country in rushing yards.

Pasiewicz scored his fourth return touchdown of the season in the big win. He brought back a third quarter punt 54 yards to the end zone for his first career punt return touchdown. Pasiewicz also returned three kickoffs a total of 79 yards and led all players in the game with eight catches, 144 receiving yards, and 274 all-purpose yards.

Gigl scored his first touchdown of the year, sparking Monmouth to a 52-9 win at Beloit College. The senior linebacker scooped up a Bucs' fumble and raced 44 yards for Monmouth's first score Saturday afternoon. Gigl finished the day with 2.5 tackles for loss and six total stops including one sack. For the season Gigl has 38 total tackles which includes 13.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

Notable Offensive Performances
J.T. Crosby led St. Norbert College to a 56-20 win over Illinois College on Saturday. Crosby accounted for 301 of the Green Knights' 386 yards of total offense. Crosby completed 21 of 38 passes for 240 yards and four touchdowns while also rushing 10 times for 61 yards and one touchdown.

Philip Santiago posted one of the longest touchdown runs in Lawrence University history and had career highs in rushing yards and touchdown passes in Lawrence's 53-7 win over Grinnell College. Santiago ripped off an 80-yard touchdown run, tying the second-longest scoring run in school history. He finished with six carries for 140 yards for a whopping 23.3-yard average. It was the first 100-yard rushing game of Santiago's career. Santiago also completed 7-of-12 passes for 180 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 25.7 yards per completion. Santiago led a Lawrence attack that finished with 442 yards on the ground and 622 total.

DeAndre Wright rushed for 202 yards and three TDs to keep Monmouth unbeaten on the year with a win at Beloit. The sophomore running back averaged over 10 yards per carry on his 19 attempts. Wright is closing in on 1,000 yards rushing this season with 916 yards, averaging nearly nine yards per carry.

Notable Defensive Performances
Matt Barrett led St. Norbert's defense in the win over Illinois College. Barrett posted 11 solo tackles, which included one quarterback sack, one tackle-for-loss and one forced fumble.

Dan Rothbauer posted career highs in tackles and tackles for loss as Lawrence defeated Grinnell. Rothbauer collected 19 tackles, eclipsing his previous best of 11 tackles vs. Macalester in 2015. The 19 tackles ties for the second-highest game total in the Midwest Conference this season. Rothbauer also had 3.0 TFLs, topping the 2.5 he had in the 2016 season opener at Presentation.

Macalester linebacker Philip Wettersten recorded a team-high 14 tackles (eight solo, six assists) to go with 0.5 sacks, a forced fumble an interception and a pass breakup in Macalester's 48-36 victory over Cornell College on Saturday.

Notable Special Teams Performances
Ryan Grandlic helped St. Norbert's special teams in the  win over Illinois College. Grandlic blocked a punt to help set up St. Norbert's third touchdown for a 21-0 lead in the first quarter. Grandlic finished the game with 11 tackles overall and one pass defended.
