Pioneers Establish Big Lead at Golf Championship

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Grinnell College women’s golf team has opened up a 46-stroke lead after the first 18 holes of the 2016 Midwest Conference (MWC) Women’s Golf Championship at Aldeen Golf Club.

Results

The Pioneers’ Virshali Sinha fired a one-over par 74 to lead the field and tie the MWC record for lowest round in a league championship that was set by Carey Cappel of Illinois College in 2006.  Vidushi Sinha finished just one stroke behind her with a 75.  As a team, Grinnell shot a 327, which is good for second all-time in conference history and just two strokes off the MWC record of 325.  Illinois College set the league record of in 2006. 

Allie Girard of Lake Forest College trails the Sinha twins after shooting an 84, while Knox College’s Samantha Nichols is nipping at her heels with an 85.  
In the team standings, St. Norbert College sits atop the logjam of the rest of the field with a 373 and is closely followed by Illinois College (374), Lake Forest (375) and Monmouth College (378).  Fontbonne University completes the field at 398. 

The second round of the 2016 MWC Women’s Golf Championship begins tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m.
