Grinnell Captures Fourth Straight Women’s Golf Title

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Grinnell College women’s golf team won its fourth consecutive Midwest Conference Championship on Sunday at Aldeen Golf Club. 

Results

The Pioneers set a new MWC Championship record with a 54-hole total of 981, besting Carroll University’s previous mark of 1,005 in 2001.  Leading the way for Grinnell was Vrishali Sinha, who shot a three-day total of 221 to shatter the old 54-hole record of 235 that was set Vidushi Sinha last fall.  Vrishali also fired a MWC-record even-par 73 in the final round.  Vidushi finished second after winning the MWC title in 2015 with a three-day total of 232. 

At the conclusion of the tournament, Illinois College’s Abby Vorreyer was named the MWC Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Blues to a fourth-place finish.  Knox College’s Samantha Nichols earned Newcomer of the Year honors after a fourth-place individual finish and a 54-hole total of 259.  St. Norbert College’s Megan Lau was named the Elite 20 Award winner, which is given to the competing student-athlete with the highest grade-point average.
