GRINNELL, Iowa – The Midwest Conference (MWC) has announced that Beloit College’s Danny May, St. Norbert College’s Tyler Jensen and Lake Forest College’s Alex Pasiewicz have earned MWC Football Performer of the Week honors.
Weekly Notes
May led Beloit to a 72-17 win at Grinnell College Saturday in the MWC-opener, throwing for 304 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 54 yards and two TDs. The four touchdown passes tied the Beloit record. In three games this season he has thrown for 697 yards and six touchdowns while rushing for a team-leading 246 yards and four scores. He is averaging 314.3 yards per game in total offense.
Jensen led St. Norbert's defense in a 50-3 win over Knox College. Jensen finished with two interceptions and four tackles in helping the Green Knights hold Knox to 156 yards of total offense in 71 plays - an average of 2.2 yards per play.
Pasiewicz returned the opening kickoff 102 yards for a touchdown in Lake Forest's 55-13 triumph at Cornell College on Saturday. It was the longest kickoff return in program history and he matched another team record with three touchdown catches in the contest. Pasiewicz also ran for 27 yards on a fake punt and finished with 128 return yards and an additional 140 yards from scrimmage. He also tied a program record with three touchdown catches, scoring on receptions of 70, three, and seven yards and finished the contest with five catches for 113 yards.
Notable Offensive Performances
Macalester College’s Alec Beatty caught 8 passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns in a 45-35 victory at Illinois College. He also threw a 69-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Eichhorn that essentially locked up the win for the Scots.
Trailing 22-0 in the second quarter, Blake Matson helped lead Illinois College all the way back to a 35-35 tie in the fourth quarter before IC fell to Macalester College, 45-35. The starting QB for the Blueboys ended the game 31-of-51 for 418 yards through the air with four touchdown passes and no interceptions. He also ended as the leading rusher for IC in the game with 25 yards on nine carries.
J.T. Crosby led St. Norbert's offense in its win over Knox. Crosby rushed 16 times for 130 yards and three touchdowns. His touchdown runs of 23, five and 36 yards all came in the first 8:49 of the game as St. Norbert took a 21-0 lead. Crosby also completed 4-of-12 passes for 45 yards and one touchdown.
DeAndre Wright helped keep Monmouth College unbeaten on the year with a 100-yard, one-touchdown effort in Saturday's league-opening 28-0 win over Ripon College. The sophomore averaged 6.7 yards per carry and ripped off a 28-yard run for a third quarter TD as the Scots rolled up 237 yards on the ground. He also grabbed one pass for a 13-yard gain.
Notable Defensive Performances
John Laponte led the Lake Forest defense with eight tackles, including seven solos, in the team's victory at Cornell College on Saturday. He also had 2.0 tackles for loss in the contest.
Notable Special Teams Performances
Spenser Thompson-Meyers scored 12 points on special teams in St. Norbert’s win at Knox. Thompson-Meyers was 6-for-6 on extra-point attempts and also connected on field goals of 34 and 31 yards. He also averaged 59.8 yards per kickoff with the Green Knights getting a net of 44.0 yards per kickoff.
Logan Gigl played a big part in the field position game Saturday as Monmouth opened league play with a win over Ripon. The senior punter averaged more than 44 yards on his four punts, landing three inside the 20 yard line, one at the Red Hawk seven and another at the six. Gigl's punts helped the Scots shut out Ripon for the first time since 1969.
Matt Glasenapp punted four times and averaged 47.0 yards per punt, including a long of 55 yards for Macalester. He placed three of his punts inside the 20, with one punt downed at the one-yard-line, and another downed at the eight-yard-line.
