GRINNELL, Iowa – Grinnell College extended its lead by 21 strokes on Saturday at the 2017 Midwest Conference (MWC) Women’s Golf Championship.  The Pioneers lead Lake Forest College by 43 shots with just 18 holes remaining in the three-day tournament. 

Results

Grinnell fired the eighth-best round in MWC history on Saturday (333) to build a huge lead over the rest of the field.  Vidushi Sinha also pushed her individual lead to eight shots as she finished the round with a 78 and has a total of 150.  Vrishali Sinha sits eight strokes behind after shooting an impressive 80 on day two. 

The Foresters leapfrogged Monmouth College and St. Norbert College for second place as they totaled a 344.  Lake Forest has a two-day total of 702 and hold a two-shot lead over the Green Knights.  Amanda Lee led the team with an 83 on the day, while Kaitlyn Gray and Faith Jung both totaled 84s.  St. Norbert’s Kelsey Motto match Gray and Jung on the day, while Amy Hozler was the only other Green Knight to crack 90. 

Monmouth’s Haley Hoekstra has the Fighting Scots in third in the team standings and is tied for third individually with Knox College’s Samantha Nichols.  Both players have 168s over the two rounds.  The Prairie Fire’s other individual, Shelby Keen is in fifth with a 170. 

Illinois College is in fifth in the team standings.  Brooke Metzger and Lindsay Alewell lead the Lady Blues with 36-hole totals of 184. 

The final round of the MWC Championship tees off at 10:00 a.m. at Aldeen Golf Club.
