MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – Cornell College senior
Eric Daubach (SR/Omaha, Neb.) has been selected to the 2017 Capital One Academic All-District Baseball Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Daubach was one of two pitchers and 12 total players selected to the NCAA Division III First Team in District 8. The district's large pool of nominees includes 21 states.
Daubach, also a first team all-district pick in 2016, is the only baseball player from the Midwest Conference to gain this year's distinction. A complete list of honorees can be found at
2017 Academic All-District Baseball Teams.
As a first team selection, Daubach advances to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. The Division III All-America Teams will be announced May 31.
Daubach is majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology. The three-time academic all-MWC performer carries a 3.84 cumulative grade point average. Daubach was among 12 Cornell College students recently elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the country's oldest and most respected academic honor society.
The academic all-district teams are comprised of the nation's top student-athletes for their performances in the classroom and athletically. To be eligible, the nominee must be a starter or important reserve, have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution and hold a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3.
Daubach has turned in another solid season on the diamond as Cornell's most versatile player. The right-hander (2-4) owns a 3.21 pitching ERA with three complete games and 34 strikeouts over 56.0 innings. Daubach is the program's career leader for ERA (2.97) and ranks fourth in innings pitched (203.1).
At the plate, Daubach is batting .273 with 19 RBIs. He is second on the team with 24 runs and seven doubles. Cornell's leadoff hitter has started 30 games.
Daubach and the Rams (16-16 overall, 10-6 MWC) are in contention for a South Division championship, needing three wins in the four-game series with Grinnell this weekend to secure hosting rights for the MWC Tournament May 12-13.
Cornell hosts the Pioneers for an 11 a.m. doubleheader Saturday on Senior Day, and then travels to Grinnell Sunday for two games to finish the regular season.
