Pioneers Increase Their Lead on Day Two With MWC Championship Record Round

ROCKFORD, Ill. – After another 18-holes, Grinnell College and Vidushi Sinha remain out front at the 2018 Midwest Conference (MWC) Women’s Golf Championship at Aldeen Golf Club. The Pioneers increased their team lead to over 60 strokes as they shot an MWC Championship record round of 312 to give them a 36-hole score of 642. The MWC teams are getting used to the wet conditions at the course in Rockford, Illinois as each team improved their score on day two.
 
Sinha’s teammates Vrishali Sinha and Nina Kouchi decreased her lead by one stroke as the two dropped four and six strokes off their day one scores respectively to sit in a tie for second with a score of 156. Kouchi’s round of 75 tied her with Lake Forest College’s Amanda Lee for lowest on day two. Despite teammate Cece Cruz dropping out of the top ten, Lee and Faith Jung kept the Foresters in second place with a team round of 350 and two-day score of 703. Lee sits in fourth after improving her score by ten strokes for a total of 160 and Jung shot a round two score of 83 for a 36-hole total of 167 and sixth place.
 
St. Norbert College started their comeback as they dropped 32 strokes on day two with a team round of 347 second lowest on the day behind the Pioneers. The Green Knights two-round total of 726 has them within one of fourth place Illinois College thanks to Amy Holzer’s round of 81, an 11 stroke improvement that moved her into a tie for ninth with the Lady Blue’s Madi Peyton and a 36-hole score of 173. St. Norbert’s Megan Lau carded the biggest drop on day two as she shot an 88, 14 strokes lower than her opening round and moved up seven places in the standing to a tie for 21st.
 
Monmouth College remains in third place after shooting a 352 and a two-day total of 717. Haley Hoekstra took sole possession of eighth place as she shot four strokes better in round two with an 82 and a total score of 170. Knox College’s Samantha Nichols remains in seventh place, two up on Hoekstra and one behind the Forester’s Jung, as she improved her score by four strokes with an 82 and total of 168. Nichols teammate Shelby Keen sits in fifth place as she shot a round of 82 to give her a total of 163.
