GRINNELL, Iowa —The 2019 Midwest Conference (MWC) Men’s Soccer Tournament weekend is here and the Prairie Fire of Knox College will host the event after winning their second title in three years. Two of the four teams competing in the tournament are nationally ranked in this week’s NCAA Division III North Region – St. Norbert College at No. 6 and Knox College at No. 7.
The Prairie Fire capped off the regular season with a 14-3-2 overall record and 8-1-0 mark in MWC play. Knox finished the season on an eight-game win streak, seven of which were league opponents. The Prairie Fire will take on Conference-rival and No. 4 seed Monmouth College (9-6-2, 4-3-2 MWC) in their semifinal match.
The Scots qualified for post-season Conference play with a 3-0 win over Ripon College in the final match of the season. This is Monmouth’s first tournament appearance since they last won the league title in 2001.
The Foresters of Lake Forest College (10-7-1, 8-1-0 MWC) enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed. It was a tight race all the way to the end but Knox’s win in the final game of the season kept the Foresters from capturing their eighteenth Conference title and the league’s top seed. This makes the Foresters ninth straight MWC Tournament appearance and they will look capture their fourth crown in seven years.
Standing between the Foresters and the title game are the Green Knights of St. Norbert College. St. Norbert concluded the regular season on a five-game win streak, improving to 14-4-2 overall and 7-1-1 in the MWC. The Green Knights are making their fifth consecutive tournament appearance and will look to win their first title since 2016.
Two field locations in the Galesburg area will accommodate both the men’s and women’s tournament teams as play begins on Friday, November 8. Both men’s semifinal matches will start at 2:00 PM and the winners will meet in the title game on Saturday at 2:00 PM.
The winner of Saturday’s championship match will be the MWC Men’s Soccer Tournament Champion and receive the MWC’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
