GRINNELL, Iowa — The 2019 Midwest Conference (MWC) Women’s Soccer Tournament kicks off this weekend and the four-team field will compete for the title of MWC Tournament Champion beginning Friday, November 8.

The two-day event will be hosted by the top seed Prairie Fire of Knox College and will have two field locations to accommodate the men’s and women’s tournament teams.

Knox earned its fourth consecutive MWC regular-season title with a 7-1-1 Conference record, just a half-game ahead of No. 2 seed Cornell College. The No. 1 seeded Prairie Fire (12-5-2 overall) look to add their fourth consecutive Tournament title and open semifinal play against the No. 4 seeded Lake Forest College.

The Foresters last won the crown in 2014 and are making their first tournament appearance since the 2016 season. In an earlier match this season against the Prairie Fire, the Foresters took an early lead scoring just 45 seconds into the game but lost 2-1 after a go-ahead goal at the 61:52 mark. Lake Forest, who finished the season 5-2-2 in league play and 10-5-3 overall, will look to avenge the loss to advance to the tournament final.

The No. 2 seed Cornell Rams will face off against the No. 3 seed Monmouth Scots in the second semifinal match. Both teams are in pursuit of their first Tournament crown. The Rams are participating in the MWC Tournament for the first time in program history after finishing the season 6-1-2 in the MWC and 12-5-2 overall. They concluded the regular season with a 1-0 victory over No. 1 Knox College last Sunday.

Making their second tournament appearance in three years, the Scots posted a 6-3 league record while going 13-4-1 overall. The Scots last played Cornell on October 5, where the Rams blanked Monmouth, 3-0.

The winner of the weekend’s event will be crowned the MWC Tournament Champion and will receive the league’s automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
