2020 MWC Indoor Track & Field Championship Preview

GRINNELL, Iowa — Grinnell College will serve as host of the 2020 Midwest Conference (MWC) Indoor Track and Field Championships Friday, February 28 and Saturday, February 29 at the Bear ’39 Center Field House. 
 
All ten MWC institutions sponsoring men’s and women’s track and field programs will be competing at the two-day event to determine who will be the Midwest Conference Champion. The meet begins at 1:00 p.m. on Friday and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. 
 
The Fighting Scots of Monmouth College enter the weekend as the defending MWC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Champions. Last season, the Scots won their twentieth consecutive title 71.5 points ahead of the runner-up Green Knights of St. Norbert College. 
 
This year’s men’s events will feature four returning individual champions 2019. Defending titles from last season is a trio from Monmouth (Darrow Stone, 60m dash – 6.95; 2019 Outstanding Men's Field Performer Seth Andersen, long jump – 6.93m, triple jump – 13.93m; Joe Krall, shot put – 15.36m) and St. Norbert pole vaulter Max Schermacher (4.45m). 
 
The defending MWC Women’s Indoor Track & Field Champion, St. Norbert College captured their fifth consecutive title last season. The Green Knights also dominated the competition and finished 102 points over the second place Monmouth College Scots. 
 
Eight individual women’s champions will be in action to defend titles from last season. Looking to repeat will be a trio from St. Norbert (Audrey Makope, 60m dash – 7.77; Maddie LeBrun, 400m dash – 57.97; Kirsten Carrigan, pole vault – 3.40m) and individuals from Beloit (2019 Outstanding Women's Field Performer Eva Laun-Smith, 60m hurdles – 8.99, triple jump – 11.91m), Grinnell (Agne Lukoseviciute, weight throw – 16.18m), Knox (Takira Koonce, 200m dash – 25.69), Lake Forest (Yaneli Guajardo, 3000m – 10:46.99), and Monmouth (Aleeka Gentzler, high jump – 1.61m).
