Monmouth assistant swimming & diving coach Al McGuire (right), who works with the Fighting Scots divers, will be inducted into the Loras College Hall of Fame during halftime ceremonies at the Duhawks’ football season opener on Sept. 6. Ironically, the Duhawks’ gridiron opponent will be the Fighting Scots.
As a collegiate diver at Loras, McGuire qualified seven times for the NAIA national swim meet and holds every Loras men’s diving record. Serving as team captain for three years, he also won the Iowa Small College State Meet in both the 1- and 3-meter springboards.

Lake Forest College Athletic Director Jackie Slaats announced on July 16 that Head Swimming & Diving Coach Dan Shelley (right) is resigning after two years with the program. A national search will begin immediately to fill the open position.
Shelley directed the men’s team to third-place finishes at each of the last two Midwest Conference Championship Meets, extending the program’s streak of finishing among the top three in the league to 25 years. The women’s team placed fifth in 2007 and sixth in 2008 before placing among the top 30 in the nation both seasons. Individual Foresters have claimed a dozen conference titles in the last two seasons and the teams added six relay championships. His student-athletes were also named Academic All-MWC 18 times.

Andrew Fleek (right) has been named the new head men's and women's swimming & diving coach at Lawrence University, Director of Athletics Robert Beeman announced on April 3. Fleek comes to Lawrence from the College of Wooster, where he has served as an assistant coach for the last two seasons.
A native of Lincoln, Neb., Fleek was a standout swimmer at the University of South Dakota. A four-year letterwinner, he served as team captain and was a 12-time North Central Conference finalist. An all-conference selection in 2001, he was a five-time NCAA "B" qualifier. Fleek was nominated for the school's Male Student Athlete of the Year Award in 2003 and won his team's Most Improved Award in 2000.
Fleek, who earned a bachelor's degree in secondary education and a master's degree in athletic administration from South Dakota, served as a graduate assistant at his alma mater in 2004 and 2005. He also has experience coaching at the high school and club levels. This past season, Fleek helped guide the Wooster women to a third-place finish and the men to fifth in the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.
