Fitzgerald rewrote the MWC record book while dominating the Pioneer Classic over the weekend. Fitzgerald set three individual MWC records and was part of a relay that broke another league mark. New records came in the 200-yard individual medley (1 minute, 49.96 seconds), 400 individual medley (3:56.85), 100 butterfly (49.16) and 400 freestyle relay (3:02.64). He established NCAA “B” cut times in both individual medleys. Fitzgerald was an eight-time champion at the meet, also claiming titles in the 200 freestyle relay (1:24.30), 800 freestyle relay (6:53.41), 200 medley relay (1:32.59) and 400 medley relay (3:22.49). Additionally, his 100 free leadoff split of 45.37 in the 400 free relay was a school record. In all, Fitzgerald had a hand in seven new meet records at the event.
