vanWestrienen placed third out of 107 competitors in the 5000-meter run at the Midwest Elite Invitational, hosted by UW-Whitewater. The junior finished in in a school-record time of 14:00.49, which ranks No. 3 nationally this indoor season and No. 11 on the NCAA Division III all-time list. VanWestrienen beat the defending NCAA indoor champion in the event.
