Brandon Ward made the last start of his career a memorable one, pitching all 10 innings while striking out a career-high 13 batters to pick up his fifth victory of the year in the 7-6 triumph. All six runs he surrendered were unearned, and he allowed just five hits and two walks while throwing 144 pitches in his Herculean effort. No Knox pitcher in two decades had thrown more than nine innings in a game, and no Prairie Fire pitcher has struck out more batters in a game in at least a quarter century.
