O'Brien started his collegiate career with four victories as Lake Forest swept host Elmhurst College 9-0 on Friday and visiting Wisconsin Lutheran College by the same score on Saturday. Playing with two different partners at No. 1 doubles, he helped double up the top team from Elmhurst 8-4 and blank the best from Wisconsin Lutheran 8-0. O'Brien also won the first set 6-0 at No. 2 singles on Friday before his opponent retired and he prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at the same spot in the lineup on Saturday.
