Beloit’s Eva Laun-Smith crushed a pair of Beloit College records and improved her national rank in two events at the Margaret Bradley Invitational hosted by the University of Chicago last Saturday. Laun-Smith was flying in the 60-meter hurdles shaving 0.18 seconds off her prelim time to cross the line in 8.80 to win the finals. The mark breaks the Buccaneer record, which she held, by 0.14 seconds and registers as the sixth-fastest time in Division III this season. In the long jump, Laun-Smith recorded a leap of 5.65 meters (18-6.5) to break the program record, which she also held, by three inches, a mark that is tied for ninth nationally. She finished as the runner-up to the athlete that is currently the national leader in the event.
