Twohill's Busy Life Lends Benefits

Monmouth College junior Brooke Twohill is no stranger to being busy. She was very active in high school and brought the same energy when she came to MC.

Coming from the Chicago area, Twohill had looked at a mixture of small and large colleges, but she picked Monmouth because when she visited, she felt “like I can fit in.” She added, “I enjoy being involved in so many different things. It gives me an opportunity to meet new people and even keeps me on task.”

Twohill’s involvement spans the spectrum from service organizations to Greek life to athletics.

“I was amazed at how many involvement opportunities Monmouth had,” said Twohill. “I didn’t expect a small college to be able to offer so much.”

Once the art major decided on a project, she reaped intangible benefits.

“I really like helping people and giving back to the community,” Twohill explained when asked of her service experiences. “I’ve met a ton of people through all the activities and service projects that I otherwise wouldn’t’ have had ANY contact with.”

She is a proud member of Circle K, a service organization on campus, as well as an orientation leader.

“The reason I became an orientation leader was because I wanted to help incoming freshman,” she said. ‘There has been a variety of professors and coaches who have had a positive impact on my life. As an orientation leader, I want to be able to pass that on.”

Helping people is an admirable goal for those looking to go into education, which Twohill is planning. She will be certified to teach kindergarten through high school after she completes her art education degree at Monmouth.

On top of service groups, Twohill is also an officer for ASAP, which is an organization in charge of bringing entertainment to campus.

As a sophomore, Twohill became a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, “I always wanted to do that," she explained, "but I waited because I wanted to work on my time management when coming to college.” She added that “a planner is a must.”

Twohill’s planner also includes all the practices and games for the Fighting Scots softball team. She started all but one of the team’s games as a freshman, slugging two homers and adding 18 RBIs.

Part of her softball duties includes serving as a team captain. She sees that experience going hand-in-hand with her service activities.

“Everything I’ve learned through the involvement activities and on the softball field will help me in the future,” said Twohill. “The leadership skills I’ve been able to acquire will definitely help me after graduation. I think I’ll be better suited to handle whatever situation comes up in the real world after graduation.”

"The Midwest Conference is formed as an organization of colleges sharing a similar educational philosophy of inter-collegiate athletics. Conference members believe that intercollegiate athletics provide unique and valuable experiences in the total educational program. They contribute significantly to the development of the individual students and provide excellent opportunity for their growth, self-realization, and the fulfillment of personal potential." “MWC Stories of Identity and Achievement” is a weekly feature highlighting the pursuits and passions of MWC students outside of athletics and into the classroom, campus and beyond graduation. The MWC Constitution forms the commitment to well-rounded individuals who maintain a distinct yet complimentary identity to that of our successful athletes. Opportunities to pursue their passions and potential in both academic and extra-curricular activities and fully integrate into campus are what make us No Ordinary Conference. In full alignment with the Division III Strategic Positioning Platform, the MWC has been a leader in the balance among academics and athletics as current and former student-athletes continue their pursuit of excellence in all that they do.
