MWC Announces 2012-13 Academic All-Conference

RIPON, Wis. -- The Midwest Conference (MWC) announced its Academic All-Conference honorees for the 2012-13 season which includes 1,240 student-athletes who represent the MWC's 11 institutions in 20 sports.

The criteria to become an Academic All-Conference member includes a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.33 (3.2 in previous years) which is calculated only in the awarded academic year. Freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors who letter in any of the MWC's fall, winter or spring sports are eligible for the award.

Of the 1,240 award winners this season 270 of them were multi-sport winners. A total of 147 recipients were honored in two sports while 123 were winners in three sports. Including those multi-sport winners the conference handed out 1,633 awards which surpasses the 1,568 awarded (1,182 individual winners) last season.

Grinnell placed a league-high 254 on the list, including 105 in the fall season, most of any team in any season. Carroll finished with 240 recipients while Illinois Col. was third with 188 award winners including 39 football players, the most any one team had honored. St. Norbert followed  with 186 winners with Beloit right behind them with 141 honorees. Lawrence (134) and Ripon (123) were next on the list while Monmouth earned 109. Knox (94), Cornell (91), and Lake Forest (73) rounded out the institutions.

Football earned 167 Academic All-Conference winners which were the most of any sport in the league followed by women's indoor track & field (138) and women's outdoor track & field (129). Women's soccer checked in with 122 award winners and men's indoor track & field rounded out the top five of individual sport winners with 111. Fall sports accounted for 698 honorees followed by winter (495) and spring (440) in the 2012-13 academic year.
