Midwest Conference Announces Academic All-Conference

GRINNELL, Iowa - The Midwest Conference (MWC) announced its Academic All-Conference honorees for the 2013-14 season which includes 1,359 student-athletes who represent the MWC’s 11 institutions in 20 sports.

The criteria to become an Academic All-Conference selection includes a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.33 which is calculated only in the awarded academic year. Freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors who letter in any of the MWC’s fall, winter or spring sports are eligible for the award.
Of the  award winners this year 284 of them were multi-sport winners.  A total of 175 recipients were honored in two sports, while 109 were awarded in three sports.  Including those multi-sport winners, the conference handed out 1,752 certificates  which surpasses the 1,633 awarded (1,240 individual winners) last academic year. 
Grinnell College placed a league-high 263 on the list, including 106 in the fall season, the most of any school in any season. St. Norbert College finished with 217 recipients while Illinois College was third with 208 award winners including 38 football players, the most any one team had honored. Carroll University followed with 206 winners, with Lawrence University rounding out the top-five with 163.  
Beloit College was behind them with 129 honorees. Monmouth College (127) and Knox College (123) were next on the list, while Ripon College earned 122. Cornell College (118)  and Lake Forest College (85) rounded out the institutions. 
Football earned 179 Academic All-Conference winners which were the most of any sport in the league followed by women’s outdoor track & field (144) and women’s indoor track & field (138). Women’s soccer checked in with 123 award winners and men’s soccer completed the top-five with 104.  
Fall sports accounted for 740 honorees followed by winter (526) and spring (486) in the 2013-14 academic year.
