MWC Announces 2021 Baseball All-Conference & Individual Awards

GRINNELL, Iowa – Today the Midwest Conference (MWC) announced the 2021 baseball all-conference and individual awards. Selected by the head coaches of each division, the league recognizes divisional First Teams, as well as divisional pitchers, players, and newcomers of the year.
 
Headlining honors in the North Division is University of Chicago junior Brett Riegler as Player of the Year, alongside freshman teammate, Drew Bryan as Pitcher of the Year.
 
Riegler led the Maroons hitting .451 in Conference play with 32 hits and 16 RBI. He also had .535 slugging and .571 on-base percentages.
 
Bryan made five Conference appearances as pitcher for the Maroons, picking up three wins in 19.2 innings pitched. He also struck out 32 batters for an average of 14.64 strikeouts per game.
 
Lawrence University freshman utility player Quinn Berglin earned the division’s Newcomer of the Year honor. Berglin hit .337 with 31 hits, 18 runs, including 4 doubles and 6 homeruns. He also slugged .576 and picked up an on-base percentage of .419.
 
In his 31st season as head coach, Dave DeGeorge was selected North Division Coach of the Year by his peers. DeGeorge led the Buccaneers to a 19-3 Conference record (24-6 overall), picking up this season’s North Division title and making their ninth MWC tournament appearance.
 
Highlighting the South Division, Illinois College senior Bailey Reed claimed Player of the Year, while Monmouth College sophomore Addison Fletcher picked up Pitcher of the Year honors.
 
Reed blasted nine homeruns in Conference play, batting .427 with 41 hits and 28 runs, including 9 doubles and 44 RBI. He also slugged .802 and .560 on-base percentage.

Fletcher went 5-0 in Conference play, leading the league in wins. He was also struck out 39 batters in 44.2 innings played, good for third, and pitched a 3.63 ERA.
 
Illinois College junior transfer outfielder Peyton Phillis was voted the division’s Newcomer of the Year. In his debut season, Phillis appeared in and started 24 games batting .314 for 32 hits and 32 runs, including one homerun. He picked up 15 RBI, slugged .587 and .419 on-base.
 
In his 3rd season as head coach of the Blueboys, Jacob Waddle led his team to a 16-8 Conference record (21-18 overall), the regular season title, and its first MWC baseball championship since 1995.
 
The Fighting Scots of Monmouth College was selected the league’s Sportsmanship Award recipient.
