RIPON, Wisconsin – On Saturday, Ripon College claimed the 2024 Midwest Conference (MWC) Indoor Track & Field Championships men's and women's titles on its home turf, marking its third consecutive sweep.
Through 18 scored events, the Red Hawks earned 137.5 points to finish first in the standings. On day two, Ripon won titles in the pole vault (Isaac San Diego), triple jump (Dameco Walker), and distance medley (Kuwaye, Seeber, Trzebiatowski, Romprey).
Monmouth College finished in second place with 108.5 points, picking up titles in the 400m (Adrian Outlaw), 800m (Eli Newton), weight throw (Caleb Toberman), and 4x400m relay (Curry, Newton, Camper, Outlaw).
Cornell College edged out Grinnell College by one point to round out the top-three with 102 points. The Rams collected a conference-record win in the 3000m (Isaac vanWestrienen), along with a victory in the high jump (LaQuanta Crawford).
On the women's side, Ripon College topped the standings with a tally of 135.5 points and added the distance medley (Ibarra, Flyte, Denamur, Hoffman) to their title wins on day two.
In second place, Monmouth College scored 114.5 points and a weight throw (Maddie Boley) championship, while Grinnell College finished third with 100 points and title wins in the 60m (Eva Carchidi) and 3000m (Keely Miyamoto).
After the conclusion of the two-day event, the MWC track & field head coaches voted on major awards for the 2024 Indoor Track & Field Championship.
Ripon College, led by head coach Bob Wood, swept Coaching Staff of the Year awards for the third year in a row.
Cornell's
Isaac vanWestrienen was named MWC Men's Indoor Track & Field Newcomer of the Year and Outstanding Track Performer.
Illinois College's
Deja Anderson was selected as MWC Women's Indoor Track & Field Newcomer of the Year, and Beloit's
Candis Damste received MWC Women's Outstanding Track Performer.
Monmouth's
Maddie Boley was awarded MWC Women's Outstanding Field Performer for the second straight season, while Ripon's
Dameco Walker was named MWC Men's Outstanding Field Performer.
Each year, the Midwest Conference recognizes the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade point average competing in the respective men's and women's indoor track & field championship. The recipients of the 2024 MWC Men's and Women's Indoor Track & Field Elite 20 awards were
James Snyder of Grinnell College and
Carson Beyers of Illinois College.
