OSHKOSH, Wisconsin – After one of the most impressive showings by a wide receiver in Midwest Conference football history, Monmouth’s Chase Newman has been named to Tuesday's
D3football.com Team of the Week.
Newman had a record-setting day for the Scots on Saturday with 13 catches for 301 yards and 4 touchdowns. His 301 yards are a single-game Monmouth record and the 4th most yards by a wide receiver in Midwest Conference history. He tied his own school record with 4 TDs and also set a Monmouth record for longest play from scrimmage with a 98-yard touchdown. His 13 receptions are a career-high, one more than he had against Lake Forest last month. The sophomore leads the MWC in receptions, receiving yards (by 200), receiving touchdowns, total touchdowns, points and yards per game.
Newman’s honor is the fifth already this season for the Midwest Conference – his teammates Mylee Hansen (9/16) and Derek Chandler (9/23) were honored in back-to-back weeks in September, while Cornell’s Julius Jenkins (9/16) and Chicago’s Walter Kilgore (9/23) also received special recognition.
This is the 27th season
D3football.com has selected a Team of the Week, which honors the top player nationally at each position from the previous week.
