OSHKOSH, Wisconsin – Eleven Midwest Conference men’s and women’s cross country runners have been named All-Region by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
On the women’s side, Cornell, Grinnell and Ripon produced All-Region runners: Lidia Dahlman (Cornell), Hannah Roark (Grinnell), Morgan Karow (Grinnell), Lizzie Drew (Grinnell), Ava Claussen-Tubbs (Cornell), Arushi Kharbanda (Grinnell), Joley Berger (Ripon) and Jenny Cortes (Ripon) each earned All-Region status.
Dahlman (ninth place) and Roark (18th place) punched tickets to this upcoming weekend’s NCAA Championship meet, recording times of 22:04.8 and 22:28.6, respectively. Karow came in 24th with a 22:45.2 showing, while Drew placed 31st (23:10.3) and Claussen-Tubbs took 34th (23:16.0). Kharbanda (35th place, 23:18.4) rounded out the Midwest All-Region honorees for the MWC, while Berger (11th place, 22:15.1) and Cortes (14th place, 22:19.2) also qualified for the NCAA Championships with standout performances at the North Region meet.
The top 35 runners at each regional meet receive All-Region status. The top 40 runners at the NCAA Championships are named All-Americans.
Grinnell finished fifth in the Midwest Region meet as a team to end the season ranked fifth regionally, while Cornell came in eighth. Ripon took ninth in the North Region championship.
On the men’s side, Isaac vanWestrienen and Jacob Bach from Cornell, along with Knox’s Lance Miller, earned accolades after their performances at the Midwest Region Championship last Saturday.
vanWestrienen qualified for his third consecutive NCAA Championship meet after winning the region meet with a time of 24:00.9. Bach will also represent Cornell in Spartanburg, South Carolina at nationals after taking 14th place with a 24:43.8 mark. Miller finished in 20th place, crossing the tape in 24:56.7, to earn his place at nationals.
Though the Grinnell men did not have any All-Region runners, the Pioneers did finish ninth overall in the meet as a team to finish ninth in the regional rankings.
