Menomonie, Wisconsin – Ripon College made its second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship on Friday, opening the first round against the University of Wisconsin-Stout. The Red Hawks fell 87-57.
UW-Stout jumped out to an early 9-0 lead at the 7:14 mark and never looked back. Ripon got on the board at 6:46, cutting the deficit to 9-2, but wouldn’t score again until the 4:06 mark, trailing 13-4.
The Red Hawks faced a 19-8 deficit after the first quarter and trailed 35-18 at halftime. UW-Stout extended its lead to as many as 27 points in the third quarter before ultimately winning by 30.
Ripon shot 35.6% from the field but struggled from three-point range, connecting on just 1-of-11 attempts, while UW-Stout shot 55% from the field and 50% from three.
The Red Hawks finish the season at 23-5 overall (15-1 MWC) after sweeping the MWC regular season and tournament titles to earn their program’s eighth NCAA postseason appearance.
With the win, the Blue Devils improve to 20-7 and advance to face Whitman College (27-1) on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.
