Grinnell Women Advance With Opening NCAA Regional Win Over UW-Whitewater

FOREST PARK, Missouri – Grinnell College women’s tennis opened NCAA postseason play with a strong showing, earning a 4-1 victory over UW-Whitewater in Friday’s regional first round.
 
The Pioneers grabbed early momentum by securing the doubles point behind wins at No. 2 (6-3) and No. 3 (6-2). In singles, UW-Whitewater responded with a point at the top spot, but Grinnell quickly countered.
 
Straight-set victories at No. 3 (6-2, 6-4), No. 5 (6-4, 6-2), and No. 6 (6-2, 6-4) sealed the match for Grinnell, which improves to 19-9 on the season. The Warhawks finish their campaign at 14-9.
 
The Pioneers advance to Saturday’s second round, where they’ll face regional host and nationally ranked No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis at 10:00 a.m.
