GRINNELL, Iowa — Greta Norville was recently named Midwest Conference (MWC) Assistant Director of Sport Communications and Marketing following a national search. The two-year position is supported by the NCAA Division III Pathway to Excellence Grant.
The MWC is one of 23 recipients of the grant, which aims to create opportunities and advance Division III athletics by providing funding for full-time, entry-level athletics administrative positions for two academic years.
In her role as Assistant Director, Norville will work closely with the Assistant Executive Director to execute the league’s sport communications program, assist with award programs, and serve as a lead strategist in the development and implementation of a strategic branding campaign.
“The expansion of staff comes at an opportune moment for the Midwest Conference as we look to roll out tournament and championship brand assets developed more than a year ago,” said Executive Director Heather Benning. “We’ve waited to embark on this initiative until we had confidence in our ability to implement it consistently across all sports and among every member institution. I’m excited for Greta to take ownership of this project and help create a recognizable brand for our season-culminating events.”
As an undergraduate at Lake Forest College, Norville spent four years as a student worker in the athletic department before transitioning into an internship during the spring semester of her senior year. As Sports Information Intern, she assisted with the production of the department’s webstreaming services and published content for GoForesters.com, including promotional features for Forester Athletes of the Week. She also created graphics and digital game programs and served as a public address announcer, statistician, and photographer.
“Having experienced the Midwest Conference both as a student-athlete and through my internship at Lake Forest College, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for everything that goes into creating a great experience for student-athletes,” said Norville. “I’m excited for the opportunity to work with Brock Reisler and Heather Benning and continue learning from their leadership and experience. I’d also like to thank the LFC athletic department for the support and guidance they have provided throughout my time there.”
Of Norville’s hire, Assistant Executive Director Brock Reisler said, “We are thrilled to welcome Greta to the Midwest Conference staff through the NCAA Pathway to Excellence Grant. Greta’s passion for the Midwest Conference and commitment to professional development spoke volumes during the interview process. I am excited for her to be an asset to our member institutions, and we look forward to providing her with a meaningful, holistic experience over the next two years.”
Norville’s first day with the Midwest Conference will be July 27.
