Lyndsey Seewald - Guard - Carroll University
Senior - Coleman, Wis.
Seewald averaged 28 points per game to help the Carroll women’s basketball team to a 1-1 record to open the season. The senior guard scored 23 points and grabbed three rebounds in a 69-62 win over Lakeland College then recorded a career-high 33 points to go along with six rebounds and seven assists in an 88-82 overtime loss to Millikin University.
November 29
Lyndsey Seewald - Guard - Carroll University
Senior - Coleman, Wis.
Lyndsey Seewald scored a total of 46 points in two games to lead the Carroll University women’s basketball team to victories over UW-Oshkosh and UW-Stout to win the Turkey Shootout hosted by Stout. The senior guard from Coleman, Wis. (Coleman) netted 16 points in a 62-54 win over the Titans on Saturday then poured in 30 points in a78-63 rout over the hosts. The wins improve CU to 3-1 on the season with CU leading the Pioneers in scoring at 25.5 points per game.
December 6
Carrie Walberg - Guard/Forward - Illinois College
Senior - Highland, Ill.
Walberg led the Lady Blues to a pair of Midwest Conference victories over the weekend with standout performances against Lawrence and Beloit. Walberg scored 7 points and pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds in a 60-37 win over Lawrence less than 24 hours before scoring a game-high 26 points and grabbing 11 more rebounds in a 56-47 win over Beloit. The IC senior also tallied six assists and six steals over the weekend. She is averaging 17 points and 12.4 rebounds per game through the Lady Blues’ first five contests of the 2010-11 season.
December 13
Jessica Vaverka - Forward - Grinnell College
Senior - Grinnell, Iowa
Vaverka continued her strong play during the last week, extending her double-digit scoring output to seven games in as many outings for the Pioneers. She scored 17 points and had six rebounds against Knox College, and added 16 points and eight boards against Carroll University. For the season, Vaverka is averaging 13.6 points and 6.7 rebounds a contest.
January 3
Jenny Haskell - Guard - Knox College
Senior - Murphys, CA
Haskell averaged 19 points and 4.3 rebounds in a 1-2 week for the Prairie Fire over the holiday season. She scored a season high 31 points Sunday in the Prairie Fire’s 73-58 loss at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA. Haskell leads Knox in scoring at 13.5 points per game and her 5.9 rebounds per contest rank her second on the team.
January 10
Justine Boone - Guard - Monmouth College
Senior - Geneseo, Ill.
Boone has been a key cog in the Scots’ surge to the number two spot in the Midwest Conference standings. The 5-foot-9 guard began the week with a 14-point, six assist, five steal performance in an 81-49 win over Lawrence. She then poured in 20 points with nine rebounds, seven assists and six steals in a 70-59 win over Knox Saturday. Her Saturday performance included an 11-of-14 effort from the free throw line as the Scots won their fifth straight game. The wins kept the Scots in sole possession of second place in the MWC. For the week, Boone averaged 17 points, 6.5 assists, 5 rebounds and 5.5 steals per game.
January 17
Alex Messacar - Guard - Lake Forest College
Sophomore - St. Charles, Ill.
Messacar made five three-pointers in each of Lake Forest’s games and helped lead the Foresters to a 2-1 record on the week. She started with a 5-for-10 performance from beyond the arc and a game-high 21 points in Tuesday’s 77-45 victory over Knox. On Friday she knocked down five of seven three-pointers and led all players again with 17 points in a 76-46 win over Ripon. The Foresters fell 73-60 to Beloit on Saturday, despite Messacar’s team-high 17 points. She averaged 18.3 points per game while shooting 45.5 percent from three-point range on the week. She also added seven rebounds, six assists, and six steals in the three games combined.
January 24
Rachel Macon - Center - Illinois College
Senior - Carlyle, Ill.
Macon climbed to 10th on the Illinois College all-time scoring list after leading the Lady Blues in scoring in a pair of Midwest Conference games over the weekend. Macon scored a game-high 27 points in a 70-66 loss to Carroll on Friday and followed that performance with a game-high 17 points in a 65-52 loss to St. Norbert on Saturday. Macon was 10-of-16 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line in the loss to Carroll. She was 8-of-16 from the field and 1-of-1 from the line against St. Norbert. Macon pulled down nine rebounds in each game and had two blocks against St. Norbert.
January 31
Sam Schuring - Guard - Lake Forest College
Sophomore - Elk Grove, Calif.
Schuring established two career-highs and matched another as Lake Forest split a pair of conference games last week. She led the Foresters with 18 points and four assists, pulled down a career-high nine rebounds, and matched her career-best with five steals in a 68-66 overtime loss to visiting Illinois College on Wednesday. On Saturday the team won 70-59 at Grinnell, thanks in large part to Schuring’s career-high 22 points. She also finished with six rebounds and five assists. For the week she averaged 20.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.0 steals per game.
February 7
Rachel Macon - Center - Illinois College
Senior - Carlyle, Ill.
Macon continued to climb the ranks of Illinois College’s all-time leading scorers with a pair of impressive performances over the weekend. Macon scored a career-high 32 points in a loss to Beloit on Friday and a game-high 18 points in a win over Lawrence on Saturday. The 50-point weekend helped Macon jump up four spots to fourth overall on the Illinois College all-time scoring list. She now has 1,163 points in her career. Macon, who is averaging 17.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game this season, was 11-of-18 from the field against Beloit and 9-of-13 from the field against Lawrence. She had seven rebounds in each game.
February 14
Emily Meyer - Forward - Ripon College
Senior - Sherwood, Wis.
In Ripon’s only game last week, Emily Meyer recorded the 13th double-double of her career, as the Red Hawks earned the season series sweep over Carroll University with a 63-62 home victory. Meyer scored a team-high 18 points against the Pioneers on 8-of-11 shooting, including 1-of-2 from 3-point range. She also tied a career-high with 17 rebounds (six offensive), while adding a game-high five assists. Meyer also posted three steals and one blocked shot, as Ripon won for the third time in their last four games. With that performance, Meyer becomes just the fifth player in program history to record 850 points and 600 rebounds in a career.
February 21
Janelle Groer - Forward - Carroll University
Junior - Pewaukee, Wis.
Groer became the 13th player in in CU women’s basketball history to score 1,000 career points when she netted nine points in an 80-46 win at Beloit College on Wednesday. The junior forward saved her best performance of the season for the regular season finale, scoring 31 points to lead the Pioneers past Illinois College, 74-63, and into the Midwest Conference Tournament as the No. 3 seed.
