2011-12 Women's Basketball Performers of the Week

November 21, 2011
Zipporah Williams - Center - Monmouth College
Junior - Chicago, Ill.
Williams recorded her 11th career double-double to will the Fighting Scots to a 72-69 overtime win against Central last Saturday. The junior center poured in a game-high 21 points and pulled down 11 rebounds as Monmouth evened their record at 1-1. She scored the first four points for the Scots in OT to finish the game 9-of-11 from the field. She had opened the season with a 14-point, eight rebound effort in a 78-73 loss to Augustana on Wednesday. For the season, Williams is averaging 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. She’s shooting 64 percent from the field, hitting 14 of her 22 field goal attempts and is a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.

Sam Schuring - Guard - Lake Forest College
Junior - Elk Grove, Calif.
Schuring averaged 20.5 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals per game as the Foresters fell 61-59 at #2 University of Chicago on Tuesday and won 73-71 against Beloit on Sunday. She had 23 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals at Chicago. In addition to her 18 points against Beloit, Schuring added three rebounds, five assists, and three more steals.

Krista Pelky - Guard - St. Norbert College
Senior - Oshkosh, Wis.
Pelky led St. Norbert to a big pair of road wins as the Green Knights started Midwest Conference action 2-0. Pelky had 18 points as St. Norbert topped Grinnell 58-48, and then pumped in 23 points as the Green Knights bested Monmouth 68-38. Pelky was 6-for-9 from the floor in both games and was 9-for-11 at the free-throw line. Pelky was a lusty 6-for-6 from beyond the three-point arc against Monmouth, and scored 18 of her point total in the first half as St. Norbert built a 68-38 lead. Pelky is scoring 18.7 points per game this season.

Jamie Kuhl - Forward - St. Norbert College
Senior - Cary, Ill.
Kuhl helped St. Norbert to a 2-0 week. Kuhl scored 13 points with three rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots in just 23 minutes in an 87-58 rout of Beloit on Wednesday. She then needed 23 points with 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and one blocked shot in 27 minutes during a 90-75 win over Knox. Kuhl is averaging 11.4 points and 6.6 rebounds per game this season for the Green Knights, who are 6-2 overall and 4-0 in the Midwest Conference.

Jill Van Eperen - Guard - Ripon College
Sophomore - Freedom, Wis.
In their only game last week, a 74-58 loss to Monmouth, Van Eperen led the Red Hawks in points, rebounds, assists and steals. The junior guard recorded her second career double-double, scoring a career-high 23 points and tying a career-high with 10 rebounds. She added three assists and two steals, while shooting 7-for-10 from the field and making all nine of her free throws.

Katie Raymond - Guard - Ripon College
Sophomore - Montello, Wis.
Raymond helped Ripon win one of their two games at the Huntingdon College Holiday Classic last week, leading the team in scoring in both games. For the week, Raymond averaged 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game. She also shot 55 percent (11-20) from the field, 80 percent (3-5) from 3-point range and 87 percent (13-15) from the free throw line. That includes a 21-point, four-rebound, four-assist performance in a 65-42 win over Oglethorpe University that saw her make all three of her 3-point attempts.

Lauren Kellen - Guard - Monmouth College
Freshman - Mendota, Ill.
Kellen posted her first career double-double and tied a school record as the Fighting Scots shattered the team scoring record in a 127-90 win over Knox. The freshman guard dished out 13 assists in the contest, tying the Scots’ record that had stood for 24 years. When Kellen wasn’t handing out an assist, she was scoring herself, pouring in 14 points on six-of-eight shooting. She also got after it on the defensive end, netting three steals in 25 minutes of action.

Breann Maryanski - Center - Carroll University
Freshman - Aurora, Ill.
Maryanski averaged 10.7 points and 12.7 rebounds in leading the Carroll University women’s basketball team to three Midwet Conference victories last week over Lawrence University, Monmouth College and Grinnell College. Maryanski saved her best performance for Saturday’s win over Grinnell when she scored 15 points and grabbed 16 rebounds.

Megan Huey - Forward - Grinnell College
Senior - Wichita, Kan.
Huey had a huge weekend performance, coming up with two double-doubles in Grinnell victories over Beloit College and Lawrence University. She had game-highs of 22 points and 15 rebounds in a 67-39 win over Beloit on Friday, and followed that up with 12 points and 11 boards in a 62-49 victory over Lawrence. With the wins, Grinnell improved to 7-3 in the MWC. That marks the team’s best start in league play since the 2003-04 season.

January 30, 2012
Krista Pelky - Guard - St. Norbert College
Senior - Oshkosh, Wis.
Pelky continued to dominate the Midwest Conference with two solid outings this past week in an 89-45 win over Lawrence and a 69-43 road win over Ripon. Pelky pumped in 21 points in 28 minutes against Lawrence, including five rebounds and five assists. She then added 16 points in 31 minutes with two rebounds against Ripon. For the week, Pelky was 13-for-24 (54.2 percent) from the floor, 5-for-7 (71.4 percent) on 3-pointers and made all six of her free-throw attempts. She is shooting 52.2 percent from beyond the three-point arc this season.

Emily DeNoyer - Forward - Carroll University
Sophomore - Waukesha, Wis.
DeNoyer averaged 21 points per game in three Midwest Conference contests, lead the Carroll University women’s basketball team to a 2-1 record. The sophomore from Waukesha, Wis. scored 20 and 16 in victories over Beloit College and Knox College, respectively. She then recorded a double-double with 27 points and 10 rebounds in an overtime loss to Lake Forest College.

Sam Schuring - Guard- Lake Forest College
Junior - Elk Grove, Calif.
Schuring matched career-highs with 28 points and five steals in leading Lake Forest to an 83-67 triumph at Monmouth College on Saturday. She shot 12-for-18 from the floor in the game and added five rebounds and three assists. Including a non-conference loss at MSOE on Thursday, Schuring averaged 17 points, five rebounds, and four steals per game for the week.

Haley Jones - Guard- Monmouth College
Senior - Knoxville, Ill.
Jones made sure Monmouth captured their second straight No. 2 seed in the Midwest Conference Tournament with a pair of outstanding performances last week. The senior led all scorers in a 75-57 win over Illinois College Wednesday that clinched the Scots playoff berth. Jones poured in 22 points while pulling down seven rebounds and blocking four shots. She was at it again Saturday in a 118-102 win over Knox. Her 23 points led all scorers as she just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Jones also shared the wealth, dishing out five assists. For the week, Jones averaged 22.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 blocks per game. She had the hot hand the entire week hitting 17 of her 25 shots (.680) including four-of-five from beyond the arc and seven of eight free throws.
