Juan Carlos Perez - Grinnell College
Senior - Quito, Ecuador
Perez got his 2011 spring season off to a strong start, including a pair of victories over nationally-ranked foes. Perez, a two-time NCAA national singles qualifier and All-American who is ranked 21st in NCAA Division III, defeated NAIA No. 2 ranked Remy Caffardo of Graceland University by a 6-2, 6-0 score and also knocked off NCAA D-III 24th-ranked Amrik Donkena of Gustavus Adolphus College 6-3, 6-3. Perez is 7-1 overall in singles this season (counting the fall ITA) and a perfect 3-0 in spring matches, while going 2-1 in spring doubles matches with Dmitriy Glumov. Perez is three wins shy of the Grinnell school record for singles victories.

Chris Franco - Monmouth College
Freshman - Rock Island, Ill.
Franco posted a 5-1 record last week to guide the Fighting Scots to a 4-3 season record. Playing at No. 1 singles, Franco began the busy weekend with a three set win against St. Ambrose. After dropping the first set, Franco came back to win 6-4,10-7. He didn’t drop a game in a straight set win Saturday against Rockford College and followed that with a two set win over Ashford University. In No. 2 doubles, Franco teamed with Chris Utterback to post a pair of wins. The duo picked up an 8-5 win on Friday at St. Ambrose and shutout Rockford 8-0 on Saturday. Franco’s only blemish on the weekend came in an 8-5 doubles loss to Ashford.

Dmitriy Glumov - Grinnell College
Senior - Tampa, Fla.
Glumov was a perfect 4-for-4 over the weekend, winning a pair of matches at No. 2 singles and teaming with Juan Carlos Perez to win twice at No. 1 doubles as the Pioneers topped Carroll University 9-0 and Central College 8-1. Glumov and Perez, ranked 20th in region, are now 6-2 in doubles play this season. Glumov owns a 5-3 mark in singles.
March 15
David Johnson - Monmouth College
Freshman - St. Charles, Ill.
Monmouth freshman David Johnson reached near perfection last week. Johnson went a combined 8-0 in four singles and four double matches while on the Scots’ Spring Break trip to Orlando, Fla. Playing at No. 3 singles, Johnson opened the week with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Clark University. He followed that with a 6-2, 6-2 win over St. Cloud State. In the next two matches against King’s College and Berry College, Johnson rolled to 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2 wins. He teamed with fellow freshman David Stewart to post four wins at No. 1 doubles. The team posted an 8-3 win over Clark to open the week and followed that with a thrilling 9-8 win over St. Cloud State. They wrapped up the week with convincing 8-0 and 8-2 wins over King’s and Berry, respectively. For the week, Johnson dropped just 11 games in singles competition.

Juan Carlos Perez - Grinnell College
Senior - Quito, Ecuador
Perez, ranked third regionally in singles play, was a perfect 11-0 during the Pioneers’ spring break trip to Orlando, Fla. He won all five singles matches, including regionally-ranked opponents from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Oglethorpe University and Luther College, and was 6-0 with Dmitriy Glumov in doubles play. Perez is now 18-1 in singles play and 15-2 with Glumov in doubles.
April 5
Martin Dluhos - Grinnell College
Junior - Ostrava, Czech Republic
Dluhos came up with a pair of huge victories as Grinnell College, ranked 12th in the Central Region, toppled 11th-ranked Carleton College 6-3 on Sunday. He teamed up with Ishan Bhadkamkar to win at No. 3 doubles and then provided the decisive fifth point by gutting out a 7-6, 2-6, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles. Dluhos was a perfect 6-of-6 over the weekend, as he also earned singles and doubles victories against both Lake Forest College and Illinois College.
April 12
Ben Morrow - Monmouth College
Senior - East Peoria, Ill.
Morrow, the usual No. 6 singles man was moved up to No. 5 Saturday to fill a vacancy and helped the Scots to a 2-0 weekend. The senior had a perfect weekend, scoring four points in the Scots two matches. Morrow dropped his Elmhurst opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, after teaming with Tyler Lampe to post a hard-fought 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles as the Scots took a 7-2 win. Morrow’s points were crucial in Monmouth’s 5-4 win over highly touted Illinois Wesleyan University. Morrow and Lampe cruised to an 8-2 doubles win before Morrow completed his perfect weekend with a straight set 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 5. He improved his overall singles record to 14-5 with his seventh straight win, going 9-1 over his last 10 matches. Morrow and Lampe improved their doubles record to 7-1.
April 19
Chris Utterback - Monmouth College
Junior - Aurora, Ill.
Utterback had a perfect weekend as the Scots rolled by Ripon 9-0 and defeated Lake Forest 7-2 in a crucial South Division matchup. Down 4-0 at No. 2 doubles against Lake Forest Saturday, Utterback and partner Chris Franco rallied for a 9-7 win to give the Scots a sweep of the doubles competition. He then cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. The day before, he had picked up an 8-3 doubles win vs. Ripon and dropped just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 win over his Ripon counterpart.

Jason Dunn - Lawrence University
Sophomore - Fond du Lac, Wis.
Dunn posted a perfect 6-0 record on the week at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Dunn started his week with a 6-4, 6-4 win against Illinois College and teamed with Max Zlevor for an 8-1 win in doubles. The Vikings defeated the Blueboys 9-0. In a 9-0 win over Ripon, Dunn had a 6-3, 6-2 victory in singles and an 8-2 victory in doubles. In a 5-4 loss to St. Norbert, Dunn won 6-3, 7-6 (7-0) in singles and had an 8-5 victory in doubles. On the season, Dunn improved to 9-9 in singles and 8-11 in doubles.
