November 20
Keith Chamberlain - Center - Grinnell College
Senior - Chicago, Ill./De La Salle
Chamberlain was named the most valuable player at the Buzz Levick Tip-Off Classic hosted y Wartburg over the weekend, as the Pioneers opened the year with a pair of victories. The 6-8 senior center contributed 15 points and five rebounds in the Pioneers 137-132 victory over UW-Eau Claire on Friday, before registering a 35-point, seven-rebound performance in a 105-103 win over the tourney host in Saturday’s championship game. Chamberlain was 12-of-15 from the field, 8-of-9 from the free throw line and 3-for-3 from three-point range against the host Knights. In addition, he scored six points, made two steals and blocked a shot in the final 3:12 to help Grinnell rally from a 97-91 deficit.

November 26
Wes Ladwig - Guard - Carroll College
Junior - New Berlin, Wis./West
After starting the season 0-2, Carroll returned to .500 behind a pair of strong performances from Ladwig at the Wisconsin Lutheran Invitational over the weekend. The 6-2 junior guard dropped 21 points in a 79-70 win over Concordia (WI) on
Friday night, before pouring in a career high 36 points in a 73-71 win over Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday. Ladwig shot a combined 19-of-34 from the field and was 15-of-21 from the free throw line in the wins. In addition, he also grabbed 14 rebounds, dished out eight assists, blocked two shots and recorded four steals. Through four games this season, Ladwig is averaging 27.3 points per game, tying him for the league lead.

December 3
Brad Johnson - Guard - Illinois College
Junior - Waverly, Ill./Routt Catholic
Johnson averaged 17.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game as Illinois College posted a perfect 3-0 mark last week, including a 2-0 start in MWC play. Johnson opened the week with his first double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) of the
season, as Illinois College downed Blackburn 79-51 in non-conference play. The 6-2 junior guard netted 17 points and seven rebounds in Friday’s 71-35 home victory over Beloit and came back with his best all-around performance of the year in Saturday’s 89-76 win over Ripon. Against the Red Hawks, Johnson tallied a team-high 24 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals to help the Blueboys win their fourth game in a row. In the three games combined, he tallied eight assists and seven steals while shooting .540 (20-37) from the field and .471 (8-17) from three-point range.

December 10
David Arseneault - Guard - Grinnell College
Junior - Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell
Arseneault capped a 2-0 week for the Pioneers with a historic performance, as he handed out an NCAA single-game record 34 assists in Grinnell’s 151-112 home win over North Central (MN) on Saturday. The 6-2 junior guard’s assist
total tops the previous NCAA Division III record of 26 assists by Kean’s Robert James from 1989 and also bests the NCAA Division I and II single-game marks of 22 and 25 assists, respectively. Arseneault, who added 22 points and six rebounds against North Central, contributed 11 points, seven assists and three rebounds in Wednesday’s 100-80 road win over MWC foe Monmouth. Arseneault, who set Grinnell’s career assist record one week ago, led Division III in assists per game in 2005-06 (8.6) and 2006-07 (8.5).

December 17
Scott Gillespie - Guard - Ripon College
Freshman - Ripon, Wis./Ripon
Gillespie nearly led the Red Hawks to an upset over No. 3 UW-Stevens Point at home on Saturday, as Ripon eventually fell 71-67. The freshman guard netted a game-high 31 points in addition to grabbing two rebounds and handing out two assists in 36 minutes of action. Gillespie was 11-of-19 from the field, 2-of-6 from threepoint range and 7-of-12 from free throw line in the game. His 31 points tied him for the most by an opponent against the Pointers this season and upped his season scoring average to 24.5 points per game, second-best in the MWC.

January 2 - (Co-players)
Ryan Kroeger - Guard - Lawrence University
Junior - Glendale, Wis./Nicolet
Kroeger keyed both of Lawrence’s victories on a 2-0 road trip in Florida. The 6-2 junior guard scored a career-high 31 points in the Vikings’ first-ever win over an NCAA Division II school, a 73-60 triumph at Nova Southeastern University
on December 17. One day later, Kroeger tallied a game-high 18 points during a 69-57 over Johnson & Wales. Kroeger, who shot 14-of-18 from the field and 8-of-12 from three-point range in the wins, added nine rebounds and three assists.

Eric Bieniasz - Forward - St. Norbert College
Senior - Germantown, Wis./Germantown
Bieniasz led St. Norbert to a three-game winning streak over the holiday break. The 6-4 senior forward
scored 21 points on December 17 to lead St. Norbert to a 59-50 overtime win over Northern Michigan, its first win over the NCAA Division II school since 1980. He then added 15 points in 18 minutes during an 84-35 rout of Rockford in the St. Norbert Nicolet Bank Tournament and five points and three rebounds in a 75-56 win over St. John’s in the
tourney championship. He shot 63.6 percent from the floor (14-22) and added 12 rebounds, three steals and three blocks in the wins.

January 7
Joe Terwelp - Center - Monmouth College
Senior - Quincy, Ill./Notre Dame
Despite Monmouth falling 87-62, Terwelp posted one of the best individual performances of the season against NCAA Division II Minnesota State-Mankato, who entered the game with a 9-2 mark. Terwelp scored 26 points on 10-of-20
shooting, grabbed seven rebounds, recorded two steals, blocked a shot and handed out one assist in the game. Spending the bulk of the game being guarded by a trio of players 6-7 or taller, the 6-5 Terwelp worked inside and outside, as he went 3-of-4 from three-point range and 3-for-3 at the free throw line. The senior center ranks among the top 10 in the MWC in scoring (14.9 ppg), rebounding (6.7 rpg) and field-goal percentage (.558).

January 14
Blaise Rogers - Guard - Monmouth College
Senior - Forest City, Ill./Midwest Central
Rogers helped the Fighting Scots end their losing streak with a pair of conference wins last week. In a 68-67 win over Lake Forest, the 6-5 senior guard scored 13 points on 4-of-8 shooting from three-point distance and pulled down four
rebounds while handing out two assists. Rogers then poured in a game-high 25 points as the Fighting Scots went on the road to hand Illinois College its first league loss of the season, 70-67. Rogers, who added seven rebounds and two assists in the game, helped seal the win by going 3-for-4 from the free throw line in the final 30 seconds. After missing the first eight games of the season with an injury, Rogers is averaging 14 points and four rebounds per game during his first three games back.

January 21
Wes Ladwig - Guard - Carroll College
Junior - New Berlin, Wis./West
Ladwig averaged 23 points per game in helping Carroll post a 3-0 record against a trio of MWC foes last week as the Pioneers improved to 9-1 in their last ten games. The 6-2 junior guard opened his week with 22 points and six rebounds on 8-of-13 shooting as Carroll ended St. Norbert’s four-game winning streak with a 71-55 decision at home on Tuesday. Ladwig then tallied 26 and 21 points in a pair of 21-point victories over Knox (83-62) and Illinois College (84-63) at home on Friday and Saturday, respectively. In the three contests, he combined to collect 11 rebounds, hand out nine assists and record 10 steals, while shooting 22-of-41 from the field, 7-of-17 from three-point range and 18-of-20 from the free throw line. Ladwig currently ranks among the MWC’s top 10 in scoring (22.8 ppg), field-goal percentage (.515), assists (3.08 apg), free throw percentage (.812), steals (2.0 spg) and three-point field goal percentage (.418)

January 28
Chris Page - Forward/Center - Lawrence University
Junior - Amherst, Wis./Amherst
Page was quiet (3 points, 4 rebounds) in the Vikings’ 81-78 upset of No. 20 UW-Oshkosh on Tuesday, but the 6-6 junior forward/center made his presence known by breaking a school record during a weekend road trip that saw
Lawrence lift its record to 13-1 overall and 8-0 in MWC play with a pair of wins. Page opened his weekend by scoring seven points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds in Friday’s 84-77 win at Illinois College. Less than 24 hours later in a 109-106 win at Grinnell, he poured in a Lawrence single-game record 48 points after going 20-of-24 from the field and 8-of-12 from the free throw line. Page, who surpassed Jason Holinbeck’s record of 47 points from a 2004-05 contest against Grinnell, added nine rebounds, two steals and an assist in the game.

February 4
Wes Ladwig - Guard - Carroll College
Junior - New Berlin, Wis./West
Ladwig enjoyed a nearly flawless shooting night in Wednesday’s 99-61 home win over Ripon, before playing the role of the hero in Saturday’s 115-113 double-overtime win at previously unbeaten Lawrence. The 6-2 junior guard tallied
29 points in 30 minutes of action against the Red Hawks, making 12-of-13 shots from the field, including 4-of-4 from three-point range. On Saturday, Ladwig was 16-of-26 from the field for a career-high 40 points and knocked down a pair of critical shots. Trailing 83-80 with 3.5 seconds remaining in regulation, Ladwig took a pass near midcourt and sank his lone threepointer of the contest from nearly 40-feet out to force overtime. In the second overtime session, he hit the game-winner when his double-clutch jumper near the free throw line gave Carroll a 115-113 lead with 2.1 seconds remaining. Ladwig, who tallied 10 of Carroll’s 17 points in the second OT, also added nine assists, eight rebounds and seven steals in the two contests.

February 11
Grant Kluge - Forward - Knox College
Senior - Joliet, Ill./Reed-Custer
Kluge averaged 17.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game last week, as Knox won 2-of-3 on the road to keep its MWC tourney hopes alive. The 6-6 senior forward opened his week with nine points and eight rebounds in the Prairie Fire’s 69-56 win at Illinois College on Tuesday. Knox trailed St. Norbert 53-40 with 9:15 remaining in Friday’s game, before Kluge scored seven straight points to spark a rally that would end with the senior putting Knox ahead for a good on a jumper with just under three minutes to play. Kluge tallied a game-high 23 points at Ripon on Saturday, but Knox’s third straight come-frombehind victory was not in the cards, as the team fell to the Red Hawks 81-78. Kluge, who added five steals and a pair of assists in the three games, was 18-of-34 from the field, 9-of-19 from threepoint range and 7-of-8 from the free throw line for the week.

February 18
Joe Terwelp - Center - Monmouth College
Senior - Quincy, Ill./Notre Dame
Terwelp was a big reason why the Fighting Scots picked up a pair of conference victories last week, as he averaged 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. On Wednesday, the 6-5 senior center helped lead Monmouth to a 58-52 come-from-behind win at rival Knox. He tallied 14 points and five rebounds in the game, as the Scots took the lead for good within the final four minutes and collectively ended Knox’s postseason tourney chances with the win. Terwelp then
posted a 27-point, nine-rebound game in a 77-66 win over Illinois College on Saturday, including a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. He added four assists and three steals in the two games and currently ranks seventh or better in the MWC in scoring (16.5 ppg), rebounding (6.8 rpg) and field-goal percentage (.550).

February 25
David Arseneault - Guard - Grinnell College
Junior - Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell
Grinnell entered the week in search of the fourth and final 2008 MWC Tournament berth and ended it by passing two teams en route to clinching the No. 2 seed after a trio of wins. Arseneault recorded double-doubles in each of the victories, tallying 16 points and 10 assists in Monday’s 114-113 overtime win at home over Monmouth, 16 points and 16 assists in Wednesday’s 100-80 home victory over Knox and 26 points and 11 assists in the Pioneers’ 105-99 triumph
at Illinois College on Saturday. The 6-2 junior guard added 12 rebounds, three steals and was 18-of-26 from the free throw line in the three games. In addition to averaging 19.3 points and 12.3 assists per game in the three contests, he also recorded the assist on teammate John Grotberg’s second half three-pointer vs. Knox that gave the junior guard 2,000 career points.
