Hoewisch showed why D3Hoops.com named her to the first team of the website’s 2007-08 Preseason All-American team, as the senior led the Lady Pioneers to a pair of wins and the title at the Jean Kilgour Memorial Tournament. The 5-9
guard dropped 29 points on 12-of-16 shooting in Friday’s 83-46 win over Eureka, before tallying 28 points in a 61-55 tourney title victory over UW-La Crosse on Saturday. Hoewisch scored seven points down the stretch for the Lady Pioneers in the tourney finals and finished the game 11-of-13 from the free throw line. In addition, she contributed eight assists, six rebounds and six steals in the two contests.
November 26
Carrie Van Groll - Guard - Lawrence University
Senior - Kaukauna, Wis./Little Chute
Van Groll, who has been one of the conference’s best all-around players early in the 2007-08 season, flirted with a triple-double during the Vikings 72-57 non-conference win over Marian in the team’s home opener on Tuesday. The 5-9 senior guard led the way with a game-high 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field, pulled down eight rebounds and handed out seven assists in 33 minutes of action. She also added a pair of steals in the win, as Lawrence improved to 2-1 on the year. Through three games, Van Groll ranks among the top 10 in the MWC in scoring (15.0 ppg), rebounding (8.3 rpg), field-goal percentage (.571) and assists (5.0 apg).
December 3
Katie McCool - Center - Beloit College
Senior - Warren, Ill./Warren
McCool averaged 21.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game as the Bucs won 2-of-3 contests last week. The 6-4 senior center opened her week with a career-high 31 points and seven rebounds in a 91-61 non-conference win at Dominican on Tuesday. She followed with her first double-double (19 points, 11 rebounds) of the season on Friday, as the Bucs picked up a 73-65 road victory at Illinois College in the conference opener for both squads. McCool closed her week with 13 points and six rebounds in a road loss, as Beloit’s upset bid against nationally ranked Lake Forest ended in
a 63-55 defeat. In addition, she added five steals and two assists while shooting .571 from the field in the three games. McCool currently ranks sixth or better in the conference in scoring (18.2), rebounding (7.5), field-goal percentage (.560) and blocks (1.50).
December 10
Melissa Gorski - Guard - Monmouth College
Junior - Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove
Gorski recorded back-to-back double-doubles in last week’s contests, as Monmouth posted a 2-0 record that included an MWC victory. The junior guard opened her week by scoring 22 points and pulling down 13 rebounds during an 83-64 win
against conference foe Grinnell on Wednesday. On Friday, she added another 22 points and hauled in 12 boards as the Scots picked up a 74-48 road win at Augustana. Against Augustana, Gorski hit all nine of her free throw attempts and has made 13 straight from the charity stripe. For the week, she averaged 22 points, 12.5 rebounds and four assists per game while shooting 40 percent (13-27) from the floor. Gorski currently ranks in the top 5 in the league in scoring (15.6 ppg), rebounding (8.7 rpg), assists (4.14 apg), steals (2.57 spg), free throw percentage (.804) and three-point percentage (.476).
December 17
Erin Navolio - Guard - Knox College
Sophomore - Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale Central
Navolio scored a team-high 15 points to go along with seven rebounds, four assists and one blocked shot in Knox’s 53-47 win over Eureka at home on Friday. After Eureka had taken its first lead of the game at 42-40 with 7:13 to play, Navolio hit a three-pointer to put the Prairie Fire back in front. Minutes later, she buried another triple to give Knox a 47-45 lead. With the Prairie Fire nursing a two-point lead, Navolio scored on a layup to extend the margin to four points with 38 seconds to play. Knox surpassed its win total (2) from a year ago with the victory.
January 2
Crystal Hoewisch - Guard - Carroll College

Hoewisch led the Lady Pioneers to the championship game of the Surf N Slam Tournament in San Diego, California before falling to nationally ranked UW-Stevens Point. The MWC’s scoring leader (20.8 ppg) netted 55 points in the three
games, including a 19-point effort in a 67-58 first round win over Ithaca (NY) that pushed her past the 1,500-point plateau for her career. She then tallied 20 points in a 65-64 last second victory over Gustavus Adolphus in the semifinals
before registering 16 points in the championship game. She was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 18.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game.
January 7
Christine Brown - Guard - Beloit College
Junior - Ruidoso, N.M.
Brown earned All-Tournament Team honors as she led Beloit to a pair of wins at the Florida Sunshine Shootout in Fort Lauderdale, Florida over the weekend. The 5-9 junior guard scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and handed out five assists in a 77-66 win over Spalding on Thursday. She then posted her second doubledouble (11 points, 10 rebounds) of the season and added three assists in the Bucs 70-57 win over Colby on Saturday. Brown was 12-of-29 from the field in the two games and currently leads the MWC in assists per game (4.12) while ranking fourth in rebounds
(9.2 rpg).
January 14
Kristen Endress - Guard - Illinois College
Senior - Tremont, Ill./Tremont
Endress helped guide Illinois College to a pair of league victories last week, as the Lady Blues climbed into third place in the MWC. The 5-8 senior guard only saw 14 minutes of action in Illinois College’s 89-56 road win at Knox on Wednesday, but still contributed six points, three rebounds, three steals and a game-high seven assists. The rest paid dividends, as Endress went on to tally seven of her 18 points in overtime in Saturday’s 88-77 victory over Monmouth. Endress’ first basket in the extra session pushed the Lady Blue lead to 78-73 and was part of 10-4 run that gave Illinois College
control of the contest. She shot 8-of-11 from the field in the game and added six rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Denise Heuser - Guard - St. Norbert College
Sophomore - Pulaski, Wis./Pulaski
Heuser followed a pair of strong performances last week by tallying a career-high 23 points in the Green Knights’ 84-82 win over nationally ranked Lake Forest on Saturday, giving St. Norbert sole possession of first place in the MWC. The 5-8 sophomore guard was 7-of-10 from the field against the Foresters, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, and also added four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Prior to improving to 7-0 in the league and handing Lake Forest its first conference loss, the Green Knights scored MWC wins over Carroll and Illinois College on Tuesday and Friday, respectively. Heuser scored 14 points in both wins and combined for eight rebounds, five assists and two steals.
Hannah Wolf - Guard - Grinnell College
Senior - Omaha, Neb./Millard West
Wolf erupted with a pair of big scoring performances over the weekend, as the senior guard combined for 77 points in a pair of league road games. Wolf opened the weekend by leading the Pioneers to their first conference victory of the season when she tallied 38 points and 10 rebounds during a 76-63 decision over Lawrence. Less than 24 hours later, she poured in 39 more points, as Grinnell came up short against Beloit 90-80. Wolf, who added 14 rebounds, five assists and four steals during the two games, was 29-of-55 from the field and 12-of-28 from long distance in the two contests.
January 28
Ashley Yeast - Center - Monmouth College
Senior - Sciota, Ill./West Prairie
Yeast posted her third and fourth consecutive double-doubles in a pair of conference games against the MWC’s top two teams over the weekend. On Friday, the 6-1 senior center scored 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Fighting
Scots handed St. Norbert its first conference loss of the season with a 70-59 decision. Monmouth came up short (72-59) on Saturday against second-place Beloit, but Yeast continued her strong play by posting 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Yeast, who currently leads the MWC in rebounding (9.8 rpg), will become Monmouth’s top career rebounder, male or female, with three more boards, as she prepares to pass Roger Sander’s (1974-78) career total of 939 rebounds.
February 4
Hannah Wolf - Guard - Grinnell College
Senior - Omaha, Neb./Millard West
Wolf posted a pair of double-doubles last week to lead the resurgent Pioneers to a pair of league victories and run the team’s overall win streak to four games. The 5-8 senior guard opened her week with 28 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block during a 67-57 win at Knox on Wednesday. She then added 20 points, 10 rebounds, six
assists and four steals as the Pioneers edged Illinois College 81-80 at home on Saturday. Wolf was 15-of-30 from the field, 6-of-17 from three-point range and 12-of-16 from the free throw line in the two games. In addition to taking over the MWC scoring lead (21.0 ppg) and ranking third the nation in three-pointers made per contest (3.06), Wolf ranks in the top 10 in the conference in rebounding (7.4 rpg), assists (3.41 apg), steals (2.00 pg) and threepoint field goal percentage (.369).
February 11
Caresse Reiland - Forward - Lawrence University
Sophomore - Wauwatosa, Wis./East
The Vikings ended up on the short end of a pair of conference games over the weekend, but the losses had little to do with Reiland, who recorded a pair of strong performances, including the conference’s first triple-double since Monmouth’s Blaise Rogers accomplished the feat in a men’s game at Grinnell on December 6, 2006. Reiland scored 16 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked a school-record 10 shots in the Vikings’ 66-51 loss to Monmouth on Friday.
On Saturday, the 6-1 sophomore forward tallied a game-high 25 points, pulled down 17 rebounds and swatted five shots as Lawrence fell to nationally ranked Lake Forest 71-60. Reiland, who is now one of only seven players in the nation this season to block 10 shots or more in a game, also added six steals and four assists in the two contests.
February 18
Melissa Gorski - Guard - Monmouth College
Junior - Arlington Heights, Ill./Buffalo Grove
Gorski helped keep the Fighting Scots’ conference tournament hopes alive by averaging 18.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in a pair of victories last week. In a 72-49 win at Knox on Wednesday, the junior guard scored eight points, pulled down six rebounds and dished out five assists in 25 minutes of play. She then led Monmouth to an 81-71 win over Illinois College at home on Saturday to avenge a January loss to the Lady Blues. Gorski poured in a season-high 29 points on 9-of-14 shooting and made 10-of-10 free throws, including 6-of-6 from the line in the final minute. She also pulled down seven rebounds, made two steals and dished out one assist. The Scots can clinch the fourth and final MWC tourney spot with wins over Grinnell and Lake Forest, coupled with a Beloit loss at Ripon on Saturday.
February 25
Mary Parker - Guard - Beloit College
Sophomore - Kansasville, Wis./Burlington
Parker flirted with a triple-double during the Buccaneers regular-season finale on Saturday, as the sophomore filled up the boxscore during a 59-48 home victory over Ripon. The 5-7 guard scored 10 points, pulled down nine rebounds,
handed out nine assists and registered six steals in the victory. Parker, who leads the MWC in assists per game (4.48) and ranks fourth in rebounding (7.3), and her teammates face top seed and host St. Norbert next Friday in the semifinals of the 2008 MWC Tournament. The 2007-08 season is Beloit’s first to qualify for the league tourney since 1997-98.
