2004-05 Softball Performer/Pitcher of the Week

Jenny Riddle, Lake Forest
Riddle, a sophomore first baseman/designated player from Bloomington, Ill. (Normal), helped Lake Forest win six of 10 games during its spring break trip to Tucson. Riddle started every contest and batted .403 (13-of-32) with three doubles,
two home runs, eight runs scored, and nine driven in. She posted a .688 slugging percentage and a .472 on base percentage and even added a pair of stolen bases.

Lindsay Stauder, Illinois C.
Stauder, a junior pitcher from Nokomis, Ill. (Nokomis), led the Lady Blues to three victories, including a sweep of Lake Forest, this past week. She went the distance, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning, in Illinois College’s win over Webster last Wednesday. She gave up three hits and struck out a season-high 10. She also went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Stauder picked up a win in the opener of a MWC doubleheader with Lake Forest on Saturday. She went the distance in the Lady Blues’ opening win, allowing five hits and a walk while striking out seven. She also went 1-for-3 with a run scored. In the nightcap, she came on in relief and picked up a save in IC’s victory. Stauder worked the final two innings, allowing one hit and a walk while striking out three. She also scored a pair of runs and drove in another.

April 12

D.J. Ambrogi, Knox College
Ambrogi, a senior pitcher from Arlington Heights, Ill. (Hersey HS), led Knox to a 5-0 record at the MWC Classic this past weekend. She went 4-0 in her four starts and also picked up a save. Ambrogi struck out 10 and walked one in a win over Lawrence and put up the same numbers in a victory against St. Norbert. She struck out seven and walked four in a nine-inning win over Beloit and then picked up a victory over Ripon. Ambrogi completed her weekend by pitching twothirds
of an inning to get a save in a win over Carroll. In 26 1/3 innings, she allowed only two runs, one earned, while giving up 15 hits and striking out 26.

April 19

Erin Watts, Lake Forest
Watts, a sophomore outfielder from Evergreen Park, Ill. (Evergreen Park), batted .636 for the week and led Lake Forest to a pair of MWC victories. After going 1-for-3 last Wednesday in two Forester losses at North Central, Watts went 6-for-8 against Monmouth on Saturday. She was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run, two runs scored, and six RBIs as her team prevailed 11-3 in the opener. She was 3-for-4 again in game two’s 4-1 triumph with two more runs scored and yet another driven in. She posted a 1.091 slugging percentage on the week with four runs scored and seven RBIs.

Lauren Kost, Lawrence
Kost, a senior pitcher from Carol Stream, Ill. (Glenbard North), picked up all four of Lawrence’s victories as the Vikings went 4-0 on the week. Kost started her week by throwing all 19 innings of Lawrence’s doubleheader sweep at Ripon last Wednesday. She went all 11 innings in Lawrence’s 3-2 win over the Red Hawks in the opener, allowing six hits
while striking out two and walking two. She came back to pitch all eight innings in the nightcap, allowing only two hits and one earned run in Lawrence’s 4-3 victory while striking out six and walking four. She then fired a one-hit shutout in Lawrence’s 3-0 win over Finlandia on Saturday while striking out three and walking one. In the nightcap, she came on in relief with just one out in the first inning and went the final 6 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run in Lawrence’s 5-4
win. For the week, Kost threw 32 2/3 of Lawrence’s 33 innings, was 4-0 and posted a 0.64 earned run average. She allowed only 12 hits while the opposition batted .115 against her.

April 26

Melissa Wegner, Lake Forest
Wegner, a junior shortstop from Chicago, Ill (Lane Tech), led Lake Forest to a 6-1 record over the past week, including a 4-0 mark in conference play. She batted .423 (11-for-26) on the week with two doubles, a triple, two home runs, nine runs scored, and 12 RBIs. In the team’s four league wins at Grinnell and Knox over the weekend, she was 7-for-15 with a triple, home run, five runs scored and eight RBIs. She drove in a career-high six runs and her grand slam broke a 4-4 tie in the sixth inning of Sunday’s conference tournament berth-clinching victory at Knox.

Lauren Kost, Lawrence
Kost, a senior pitcher from Carol Stream, Ill. (Glenbard North), won both games of Saturday’s doubleheader with Carroll to give Lawrence the North Division title for the third time in four years. In the opener, Kost struck out seven and didn’t walk a batter in Lawrence’s 2-1 victory. In the nightcap, she tossed her fourth one-hit shutout of the season in Lawrence’s 2-0 win. She struck out three and didn’t walk a batter. For the week, Kost was 2-1 with a 1.59 earned run average while striking out 16 and walking none.
