2011 Men's Soccer Defensive Performer of the Week

Trevor Donahue - Goalkeeper - Illinois College
Junior - St. Louis, Mo.
Illinois College’s lone all-conference selection in 2010 picked up right where he left off last year, helping Illinois College to a key overtime win in the team’s first game of the season. Donahue made five saves in IC’s overtime win at Cornell on Saturday, then eight more in a 1-0 loss at Coe on Sunday. Donahue made 13 saves in the pair of matches, allowing an average of 0.92 goals per game.

Adam Haefner - Goalkeeper - Ripon College
Junior - Mequon, Wis.
Haefner did not allow a goal in 290 minutes last week, recording a shutout in all three of Ripon’s games. In addition to that, Haefner saved 15 shots in the three games combined. That helped Ripon go 2-0-1 during the week, including a double overtime tie against Edgewood College.

Giancarlo Colasanti - Goalkeeper - Lake Forest College
Junior - Ottawa, Ontario
Colasanti helped Lake Forest remain unbeaten on the season by allowing just one goal in two contests last week. The Foresters played to a 1-1 tie with the University of Dubuque, the fourth-ranked team in the region, on Tuesday and Colasanti finished the contest with five saves. He then registered his second shutout of the season in a 4-0 blanking of Illinois College to open MWC play on Saturday.

Donahue was perfect over the past seven days, recording two clean sheets while not allowing a goal in over 195 minutes in goal. Donahue made three saves in a 3-0 win over Eureka College on Wednesday before stopping 14 shots in a scoreless draw with Ripon on Saturday. IC improved to 4-3-3 overall and and 0-1-1 in MWC play thanks to Donahue’s strong performances in goal.

Andy Sheller - Defender - Monmouth College
Junior - Morton, Ill.
Sheller’s defense helped the Scots to a pair of shutout wins in the last week to hold on to third place in the MWC. In a 3-0 win over Illinois College, Monmouth’s defensive unit held the Blueboys to just four shots on goal and just one in the second half. The junior defender also came up big in a 4-0 win over Lawrence on Saturday. The second half again proved to be the difference when the Scots allowed just two shots on goal after taking the lead. Sheller completed nearly 90 percent of his passes over the two outings as the Scots recorded back-to-back shutouts for the first time this season.

Charlie Mann - Defender - Lawrence University
Sophomore - Denver, Colo.
Mann was the key to a Lawrence defense that allowed only one goal in two games during the past week. Playing in the center of the Lawrence defense, Mann helped the Vikings to a 2-0 shutout on the road at Ripon on Wednesday. Charged with marking one of the league’s top attackers, Beloit’s Jackson Wilkins, on Saturday, Mann held the Beloit star without a point in Lawrence’s 2-1 overtime victory.

Adam Bruk - Defender - Carroll University
Senior - Brookfield, Wis.
Bruk spearheaded a defensive unit that earned two shutouts last week to help the Carroll University men’s soccer team clinch the 2011 Midwest Conference Championship with wins over Monmouth College (3-0) and Grinnell College (4-0). The Pioneers have shutout league opponents in five consecutive games.

Ian Taylor - Goalkeeper - Lake Forest College
Freshman - Rocky River, Ohio
Taylor surrendered just one goal on the weekend as Lake Forest won 5-1 at Knox on Saturday and 2-0 over visiting Carroll on Sunday. He recorded four saves at Knox and one in his first career shutout against Carroll. The victories enabled the Foresters to qualify for the MWC Tournament.
