John Silseth - Carroll University

John Silseth won all four of his matches last week to lead the Carroll University men’s tennis team to a pair of victories to start the 2012 season. He went 4-0 in his matches while leading the Pioneers past Concordia (WI) University (9-0) and Lake Forest College (6-3). Silseth teamed with Matt Zellner for victories at No. 1 doubles then cruised to wins at the No. 5 singles flight.

Parker Featherston - Monmouth College
Freshman - South Elgin, Ill.
Featherston put together a 2-0 weekend despite playing up in the order for singles competition. The freshman teamed with senior Chris Utterback at No. 2 doubles to post an 8-3 win last Friday. With the Scots tied 4-4 with scholarship school, St. Ambrose, Featherston pulled out a three set win at No. 3 singles in the match finale to give Monmouth a 5-4 team win. Featherston dropped the opening set 7-5, but bounced back to take the second set 6-0. Trailing 9-7 in the tie-breaker, Featherston rallied for a 12-10 win.

David Johnson - Monmouth College
Sophomore - St. Charles, Ill.
Johnson is getting back into the swing of things after spending the first month of the season doing double duty with the basketball team. With a full week of practice under his belt for the first time this season, the sophomore cruised to a singles and doubles win last Saturday against St. Norbert. Johnson was nearly perfect in a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. He started the day teaming with David Stewart for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles to spark Monmouth to a 9-0 match win.

Michael Cole - Grinnell College
Senior - Livonia, Mich.
Cole was a perfect 4-for-4 over the weekend as the Pioneers beat Augustana College and the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He teamed with Elliott Czarnecki ’15 to win twice at No. 1 doubles, and also posted a pair of wins at No. 6 singles. He is now 7-2 in singles play and 6-4 in doubles with Czarnecki as Grinnell improved to 8-3 as a team.

David Stewart - Monmouth College
Sophomore - Metamora, Ill.
Stewart enjoyed a 7-1 week overall during the Fighting Scots’ Spring break trip to Florida. The sophomore teamed with David Johnson for a perfect 4-0 record at No. 1 doubles. The pair was threatened only once, but edged Franklin and Marshall 8-6. Playing at No. 3 singles, Stewart rebounded after singles loss to Wesleyan University to start the week and won his next three singles matches. His first two wins came in straight sets and he completed the week with a three set win over Stonehill.

Eric Ritter - Grinnell College
Senior - West Hartford, Conn.
Ritter won four of five matches at No. 2 singles during the Pioneers’ spring break trip to Orlando, Fla. Included in that string was a win over a player from Carthage that had been ranked regionally at one time. For the season, Ritter is 7-4 and Grinnell as a team owns a 14-4 record.

Chris Franco - Monmouth College
Sophomore- Rock Island, Ill.
Franco was perfect last week as the Scots posted a 2-0 weekend. The sophomore won in straight sets over his No. 1 singles opponents from Lawrence and Knox. He also picked up two No. 3 doubles win, albeit a bit closer. Franco and Tyler Lampe defeated their doubles counterparts by identical 8-6 scores as Monmouth won all 18 matchups last weekend.

Jason Dunn - Lawrence University
Junior- Fond du Lac, Wis.
Dunn went 2-0 on the week at No. 1 singles as Lawrence split a pair of matches. Dunn defeated Byron Balkin of UW-Whitewater 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) in Lawrence’s 8-1 loss to the Warhawks. Dunn also beat John Rolando of Rock Valley 6-0, 6-3 in the Vikings 9-0 victory. Dunn went 1-1 in doubles with Max Zlevor.

Elliott Czarnecki - Grinnell College

Czarnecki went a perfect 3-for-3 at No. 1 singles against Midwest Conference foes over the weekend. He posted wins over opponents from Knox College, St. Norbert College and Lawrence University to improve to 17-13 on the weekend. He also had a doubles win against Knox.

John Adams - Grinnell College
Junior - Colorado Springs, Colo.
Adams won all four of his matches at #2 doubles and singles last week. He prevailed 8-4 in doubles and 6-4, 6-2 in singles to account for both of the Foresters’ team points in a 7-2 loss at Wheaton College on Wednesday. Lake Forest edged out visiting North Central College 5-4 on Saturday and Adams posted an 8-3 triumph with a new partner in doubles and a 6-2, 6-3 victory to extend his singles winning streak to nine matches.
