Davis hit the ground running in Illinois College’s season-opening doubleheader at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida, on Sunday, tallying six hits and eight RBIs in a sweep of Finlandia University. Davis went 2-for-4 with a run scored and four RBIs in 17-5 win in the opener, before a 4-for-5 performance that included two doubles, a triple, and four more RBIs in the nightcap, a 15-2 Illinois College win.

Freshman - Jacksonville, Ill.
Duke’s first start in an Illinois College uniform was a memorable one, as the freshman right-hander earned the first pitching win of his career in a 15-2 victory over Finlandia University. Duke pitched six innings, allowing just one hit and one run in the win. Duke, who took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, helped the Blueboys seal the doubleheader sweep with his strong performance.

Davis stayed hot last week, batting .524 (11-for-21) as the Blueboys went 5-1 in games at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida. Davis tallied six runs, eight RBIs, a triple and a pair of home runs over the six games. Davis had a particularly good game in an 8-6 win over Emerson College, going 4-for-4 with a triple and a home run, two runs scored and six RBIs.

Jones pitched a gem in the first game of a doubleheader against Hiram College at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic on Thursday. Jones pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits, one walk and one unearned run in a 2-1 Illinois College win. Jones struck out four Hiram batters in the Illinois College victory.

Grambow helped Ripon go 6-4 on their Spring Trip to Winter Haven, Fla., batting .333 (13-39) during the week. That included two doubles and team-highs of four home runs and 11 RBI, while scoring seven runs.

Duke pitched a complete game shutout in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday at Millikin University. Duke allowed just six hits and two walks over seven innings in the 3-0 Illinois College victory. He struck out four. The freshman hurler improved to 2-1 with the win, while lowering both his ERA (2.12) and WHIP (1.18). He’s allowed just four earned runs while striking out 17 batters over 17 innings this spring.

Davis continued his torrid pace this spring, batting .583 (7-for-12) over a three-game stretch last week. Davis hit his fourth home run to produce all three of Illinois College’s runs in a 3-1 win over Knox on Saturday. He went 3-for-4 with a double, two walks, three runs and an RBI in a loss at Eureka earlier in the week. Davis is currently batting .517 with 12 extra-base hits and 25 RBIs this spring for the 10-5 Blueboys.

Jones put together a sparkling performance in the first game of Illinois College’s Midwest Conference doubleheader with Knox on Saturday. Jones scattered just four hits over seven scoreless innings in a 3-1 victory for the Blueboys. The junior right-hander struck out four in the win, his second of the season. Jones, who currently leads the Blueboys in innings pitched, sports a 2.25 ERA.

Davis batted .444 with four home runs and seven RBIs over the past week as Illinois College lost to Principia College and split a doubleheader at Monmouth College. All four of Davis’ hits over the past week were home runs. He also drew five walks, including four in the second game of the doubleheader at Monmouth, giving him a .643 on-base percentage over the three-game stretch. He leads Illinois College in nearly every offensive category this spring, including batting (.515), home runs (8) and RBIs (32).

Jones scattered just four hits while allowing two walks over nine innings of work in the 4-0 Illinois College win. Jones struck out a season-high 11 batters in the victory. Illinois College’s innings pitched leader sports a 1.55 ERA and a 0.97 WHIP over 29 innings this spring.

In six games last week Nelms hit .600 (9-15) with 6 runs scored, 9 RBIs, and seven walks, posting a 1.492 OPS. In Saturday’s doubleheader split at Carroll he was 5-5 with 2 runs, 2 doubles, and 6 RBIs while walking 3 times. For the season Nelms is hitting .355 with 12 runs, 4 doubles and 15 RBIs. His .468 on-base percentage is second-best on the team.

Alex Norman - Beloit College
Senior - Elburn, Ill.
Norman lowered his season ERA to 1.76 with a complete-game 3-1 win over Carroll in the MWC opener for both teams on Friday in Beloit. He scattered nine hits while striking out ten and walking none. In his last two games he has pitched 16 innings, giving up 15 hits while striking out 17 and walking none. His ERA over the last two starts is 1.13. For the season he is 4-2 with 33 strikeouts and five walks in 46 innings pitched.

Gabe Henriques - Second Base - Lawrence University

Henriques led Lawrence to a 6-0 record on the week by hitting .500 (10-for-20). Henriques scored 10 runs, and collected two doubles, a triple and a homer. Henriques, who drove in seven runs in the six games, had a .630 on-base percentage and 1.130 OPS. During the week, Lawrence swept two games from MSOE and then traveled to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and won four games against Finlandia.

Gay picked up his first collegiate win and his first collegiate save this past week. Gay went the distance in Lawrence’s 11-1 win at Finlandia this past Saturday to get his first win. He allowed two hits, struck out four and didn’t walk a batter. He earned his first save with one inning of relief in Lawrence’s 8-5 win over MSOE last Wednesday. For week, Gay pitched eight innings, posted a 1.12 earned run average, struck out four and didn’t issue a walk.

Senior - Escanaba, Mich.
Hillesheim led St. Norbert offensively during a 7-1 week for the Green Knights. Hillesheim hit .478 (11-for-23) with eight runs scored, two doubles and eight RBIs. He also walked six times and was hit by four pitches for a .636 on-base percentage. Hillesheim is hitting .365 overall on the season for the Green Knights, who have won their last seven games.

Kevin Nutley - St. Norbert College
Sophomore - Forest Park, Ill.
Nutley helped St. Norbert to a 7-1 week with a couple of important appearances. Nutley earned a win and a save in the Green Knights’ four-game sweep of Carroll. Nutley threw a two-hitter in an 11-1 win over the Pioneers, and then threw a scoreless ninth inning to nail down the series sweep in a 9-7 win over Carroll. Nutley allowed three hits in eight innings, walking three and striking out eight for a 1.12 ERA and .115 batting average against.

Ljunggren led St. Norbert to a 4-0 week with a series sweep of Lawrence. Ljunggren hit .529 (9x17) and scored seven runs, smacked three doubles and drove in five runs. Ljunggren’s 12 total bases were a team-high. He also fashioned a .600 OBP and stole two bases. Ljunggren is now hitting .352 on the season for the Green Knights, who have won 11 straight games.

Ben Pope - Grinnell College
Senior - Maryville, Tenn.
Pope, the two-time defending MWC South Division Pitcher of the Year, did nothing to take away from that standing this past week. He pitched a two-hit, complete-game shutout against Monmouth College as the Pioneers blanked the Fighting Scots 10-0 on Saturday. He struck out five batters and did not issue as walk as Grinnell remained in control of the MWC South Division standings. For the season, Pope is 4-1 with a 3.18 ERA.

In three games played last week Jaenicke hit .615 (8-13) with 4 runs scored, 9 RBI, 1 double and 3 home runs. He had a slugging percentage of 1.385 and an on-base percentage of .667 for an OPS of 2.052. In the Ripon series (which started on Sunday, 4/29 and included nearly 3 full games on Monday) he hit .588 (10-17) with 6 runs scored, 13 RBI, 1 double and a home run in each game, including a grand slam in the opening game.

Drew Doares tossed his second shutout of the season in Lawrence’s 7-0 victory at Carroll on Saturday. Doares allowed only five hits, all singles, over nine innings. He struck out six and walked one. Doares allowed only two runners as far as second base and none made it to third as he picked up his fourth win of the season.
