2014 Women's Indoor Track Performers of the Week

Liz LeCaptain - St. Norbert College
Sophomore - Beaver Dam, Wis.

LeCaptain destroyed the field in the 60m dash running a time of 7.89 at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational on Saturday. That mark currently has her ranked sixth in the nation. She also placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.97.

Raven Robinson - Monmouth College
Senior - Peoria, Iowa

Robinson had no equal last weekend at the Sol Butler Classic hosted by the University of Dubuque. The senior won both of her events to lead the Scots to the meet’s team title. Robinson heaved the shot put 42’1-3/4” for the win. She then won the weight throw with a mark of 51’6-1/2”.

Felicia Carlson - Beloit College
Junior - Beloit, Wis.

Carlson won both the 60M and 200m at the Monmouth Midwest Invite on Saturday. Her winning time of :07.91 in the 60m was the 3rd fastest in the MWC to date. She already holds the fastest time this season. In the 200m, her time of :26.38 was the second-fastest in the MWC this season. She also holds the top time in the event.

Emily Tysma - Monmouth College
Senior - Hillsdale, Ill.

For the second straight week, Tysma easily won her high jump competition. Competing at Saturday’s Midwest Invitational, the senior cleared 5’6”. The mark set the Huff Athletic Center record as she improved her high jump mark this season by one full inch while turning in the league’s best mark this year.

Abrah Masterson - Cornell College
Freshman - Granby, Colo.

Masterson remained unbeaten this indoor season with a record-setting performance in the 3000-meter run at Cornell’s Hilltop Invitational. Masterson topped the 15-woman field in 10:14.06, breaking the previous school record by more than nine seconds. Masterson’s 3000 time is the quickest in the Midwest Conference and ranks 21st nationally. She owns four victories this season.

Nicole Vanderlin - St. Norbert College
Sophomore - Vulcan, Mich.

Vanderlin captured her second High Jump Invitational title of the season at the U-W Whitewater Warhawk Invitational. Vanderlin’s leap of 5-4.25 is the second-best in the MWC this season and currently has her ranked 27th in the nation.

Christine Ajinjeru - Grinnell College
Senior - Kampala, Uganda

Ajinjeru shattered two school records and won an event to lead the Pioneers at the Grinnell Invitational Saturday. She won the 400-meter dash in 58.74, beating the runner-up by more than 2 seconds in the 16-runner field. That performance also smashed the previous Pioneer record of 59.19, set by Camarin Bailey in 2000. Her time is tops in the MWC this season and ranks among the top 40 in NCAA Division III. Ajinjeru also ran the 60 dash in 8.23, besting her previous school record of 8.33 set last weekend. She also ran the 4x200 relay, where the Pioneers ran the seventh-fastest time in program history.

Emily Tysma - Monmouth College
Senior - Hillsdale, Ill.

Tysma climbed up the national ranks Saturday and helped Monmouth claim first place at the IWU Keck Invitational which included scholarship schools. The senior high jumper easily won the event with the nation’s third-best height of 5’7”. The mark leads the MWC by nearly 3”.

Sarah Burnell - Grinnell College
Senior - Grinnell, Iowa

Burnell emerged from a pack of 25 runners to win the mile run at the Darren Young Classic Saturday. She had a time of 5:06.16 while breaking her own meet record of 5:13.28, established two years ago. Her time was also a personal-best and ranks second on Grinnell’s all-time chart. It is also tops in the MWC this season. Burnell was also on the 4x400-meter relay team that had a time of 4:07.03, which ranks third on the Pioneers’ all-time chart and is second in the league this season.

Senior - Peoria, Ill.

Robinson had no equal at Saturday’s Fighting Scot Open which featured teams from Division I as well as ranked Division III squads. The senior thrower won her two events with marks that ranked in the top six in the nation. Robinson’s throw of 56’7-1/2” in the weight throw won by more than six feet. Earlier in the day she had tossed the shot put 45’6-1/2” for the win. She moved up to No. four nationally in the shot put and is ranked sixth in the weight throw.

Ofuma Eze-Echesi - Illinois College
Senior - Lagos, Nigeria

Eze-Echesi won two events and set a school record on Friday night at the Illinois College Alumni Classic. Eze-Echesi won the 60-meter dash with a school-record time of 7.78 seconds, before winning the 200-meter dash in a time 25.50 seconds. Each time ranks as the sixth-fastest in Division III this year; both are the fastest run in the Midwest Conference. No team scores were kept at the meet.

Samantha Morateck - St. Norbert College
Freshman - Palmyra, Wis.

Morateck placed third out of 27 jumpers at the UWSP Eastbay Invitational. Moratecks jump of 5’-4.25” is a career best and moves her up to third in the Midwest Conference rankings and tied for 33rd in the nation.
