2013 Football Offensive Performers of the Week


September 9, 2013
Tom Sawyer - Quarterback - Ripon College
Senior - Egg Harbor, Wis.

Sawyer led Ripon to a 31-24 season-opening victory over Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday, showing off his dual threat ability. Sawyer led the Red Hawks with 131 yards on 29 carries (4.5 ypc) and three touchdowns. He also recorded 169 yards passing, completing 12-of-20 passes.

Luke Barthelmess - Quarterback - Lawrence University
Senior - Appleton, Wis.

Barthelmess ran for more than 100 yards and passed for nearly 300 as Lawrence dropped a heartbreaking 14-13 decision to Lake Forest this past Saturday. Barthelmess ran 21 times for 124 yards, an average of 5.9 yards per carry, for his second consecutive 100-yard game to start the season. Barthelmess also completed 24 of 36 passes for 284 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.

Mason Dixon - Running Back - Beloit College
Freshman - Walworth, Wis.

In the Bucs’ 38-21 win over Lawrence Saturday, Dixon rushed for 200 yards on 12 carries with three TDs. His scores were from 16, 48 and 42. It was his second straight 100-yard game. His 200 yards marked just the 14th time in Beloit Football history that a player had 200-plus yards rushing in a game. In the three games this season he has 345 yards on the ground on 53 carries, an average of 6.5 yards per rush, with four touchdowns.

Jacob Bernholtz - Running Back - Grinnell College
Freshman - Huxley, Iowa

Bernholtz rushed for a career-high 157 yards on 14 carries and scored three touchdowns as the Pioneers rolled past Beloit College 42-17 Saturday. Bernholtz ran for touchdowns of 59 and 65 yards, and also recovered a ball in the end zone on a fumbled Beloit punt attempt.

Cecil Brimmage - Running Back - Illinois College
Senior - Alton, Ill.

Brimmage tallied the highest rushing total in the Midwest Conference to date this year, racking up 273 yards on 29 carries in a 26-6 win at Lawrence University on Saturday. Brimmage averaged 9.4 yards per tote and scored on a 24-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Brimmage leads the MWC in rushing with 693 yards through his team’s first four games, helping the Blueboys to a 4-0 start.

Lamont Williams - Running Back - Carroll University
Junior - Philadelphia, Pa.

Williams scored four first half rushing touchdowns to lead the Carroll University football team to a 48-14 Midwest Conference victory over Lawrence University. Williams finished the game with 216 rushing yards on just 19 carries. He scored on runs from 10, 1, 83 and 12 yards.

Juan Flores - Quarterback - Cornell College
Senior - Alta Loma, Calif.

Flores set a school record for single-game completion percentage (95.0), going 19-of-20 through the air in Saturday’s 45-14 win at Knox. He finished with 174 yards passing and one touchdown, while running for another 64 yards and four touchdowns. Flores led an offense that outscored Knox, 24-0, in the second half. Flores has accounted for 15 touchdowns (8 passing, 7 rushing) this season.

Trey Yocum - Running Back - Monmouth College
Senior - Bushnell, Ill.

Yocum - Monmouth’s all-time rushing leader - set two more records and scored all four of the Scots’ TDs in Monmouth’s 31-7 winover Lawrence. The senior running back became just the second Scot to run for more than 1,000 yards in three straight seasons. He got the yards he needed for the feat with a school-record 277 yards, averaging nearly nine yards per carry on 31 carries without any negative yards. Yocum picked up a total of 43 yard on two of his touchdowns, a 23-yard score for his first TD and a 20-yard run for his last score of the game. He also broke off runs of 29 and 31 yards.

Luke Barthelmess - Quarterback - Lawrence University
Senior - Appleton, Wis.

Barthelmess ran for more than 100 yards and passed for more than 300 in Lawrence’s tough loss to Grinnell. Barthelmess, who recorded his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season, ran 17 times for a season-high 131 yards. He also completed 32 of 50 passes for a season-high 337 yards and three touchdowns. Barthelmess now has 57 career touchdown passes, just three shy of breaking Lawrence’s career record of 59, set by All-American Jim Petran.

Luke Barthelmess - Quarterback - Lawrence University
Senior - Appleton, Wis.

Barthelmess threw the game-winning touchdown pass on the contest’s final play to give Lawrence a 23-20 victory over Knox. With three seconds left, Barthelmess took the snap, scrambled and then completed a 17-yard touchdown pass to his younger brother, Issac, to give the Vikings the victory. It was the 59th touchdown pass of his career, which ties Barthelmess with All-American Jim Petran for the Lawrence record. On the day, Barthelmess was 30 of 47 for 312 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran 12 times for 81 yards and a touchdown.

Trey Yocum - Running Back - Monmouth College
Senior - Bushnell, Ill.

Yocum ended his Monmouth career in style, rushing for 247 yards and two touchdowns to set the Scots’ single season rushing record while Monmouth posted a 37-10 win over Knox. Yocum’s season total of 1,590 yards broke the mark of Dante Daniels, set in 2006. Yocum now owns the three major rushing records: game, season and career. The senior’s two TDs came on runs of 21 and 50 yards and helped the Scots win the Bronze Turkey game for the 15th consecutive year.
