2013 Women's Soccer Offensive Performers of the Week


September 3, 2013
Ella Petersen - Forward - Knox College
Junior - Wilmette, Ill.

Petersen scored four goals and added two assists in a season-opening 10-0 win at home on Sunday against Robert Morris University. Petersen’s 10 points in the contest against RMU are the most for a women’s soccer player at Knox since the 1999 season. The 10 goals scored by the Prairie Fire are the most since the 2004 campaign.

Lauren Kellen - Forward - Monmouth College
Junior - Mendota, Ill.

Kellen recorded a pair of hat tricks as Monmouth won both of its games last week. Kellen’s six-goal outburst in the victories against Rockford and Coe moved her career total at Monmouth to 35 and put her in second-place on the Fighting Scots’ career list. In MC’s 10-0 win over Rockford, Kellen played just 15 total minutes and notched three goals in the first eight minutes of the game. She had the first three goals of Monmouth’s 7-0 win over Coe, breaking open a tightly-contested 1-0 game with two goals to close out the first half.

Katie Vanden Avond - Forward - St. Norbert College
Junior - De Pere, Wis.

Vanden Avond led St. Norbert to a 2-0 week, posting hat tricks in consecutive days in a 4-3 win over Concordia-Wisconsin and a 4-0 MWC triumph over Lawrence. Vanden Avond, who now has 11 goals through six games, has three hat tricks this season and all four of St. Norbert’s game-winning goals this season. Vanden Avond also recorded an assist on the Green Knights’ fourth goal against Lawrence.

Lauren Kellen - Forward - Monmouth College
Junior - Mendota, Ill.

Kellen led Monmouth to a pair of victories in the opening weekend of Midwest Conference play by scoring four goals. Against St. Norbert, Kellen found the back of the net twice, including a free kick goal that tied the score at 3-3 in the second half. The Fighting Scots then won 4-3 in overtime for their first victory over the Green Knights since 2005. The next day against Ripon, Kellen scored the middle two goals in a 4-0 shutout of Ripon, another team that had defeated Monmouth a year ago.

Katie Vanden Avond - Forward - St. Norbert College
Junior - De Pere, Wis.

Vanden Avond had a record-setting week as the Green Knights posted a 6-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran and a key 3-1 win over Lake Forest. Vanden Avond scored three goals against Wisconsin Lutheran, setting the St. Norbert and Midwest Conference record for career goals. She added two more goals against Lake Forest, giving her a career total of 73 goals.

Holly Lesperance - Forward - Lake Forest College
Sophomore - Waukesha, Wis.

Lesperance, who entered the game with three goals on the season, scored four times in Lake Forest’s 5-3 victory at Ripon on Saturday. After getting in the way of a clearing attempt and having the ball carom off her and into the goal at the 8:24 mark, she completed her first career hat trick with tallies at 22:04 and 29:04. Ripon came back and tied the score but the Foresters pulled back ahead and Lesperance became just the sixth player in program history to score at least four times in a game when she added an insurance goal with eight-and-a-half minutes left.

Katie Vanden Avond - Forward - St. Norbert College
Junior - De Pere, Wis.

Vanden Avond scored three goals in her only game this week, a 6-0 win over Knox. Vanden Avond, who played in only the first half of the contest, has 25 goals in 14 games this season. She tallied a natural hat trick in the first 25 minutes of the game for her 15th career hat trick.

Lauren Kellen - Forward - Monmouth College
Junior - Mendota, Ill.

Kellen notched her fourth hat trick of the season in a 7-0 win over Beloit to lift Monmouth back into a tie for first place in the Midwest Conference. Kellen got the Fighting Scots on the scoreboard in the 17th minute, and assisted on Monmouth’s third goal for a 3-0 halftime lead. She then tacked on two more goals in the first 2:49 of the second half to seal the Scots’ sixth MWC win of the year. In the process, Kellen tied Monmouth’s single-season goal record of 20, which has stood since 2005.

Katie Vanden Avond - Forward - St. Norbert College
Junior - De Pere, Wis.

Vanden Avond broke another long-standing Midwest Conference record with five goals this past weekend. Vanden Avond boosted her season total to 32 goals, surpassing the previous MWC mark of 30 set by Lawrence’s Libby Mullin in 1986. Vanden Avond pumped in four goals in Saturday’s 7-1 win against Cornell. She then scored the Green Knights’ only goal in a 1-0 win over Grinnell on Sunday, a triumph that secured the MWC title.

November 4, 2013
Bethany Stivers - Forward - Cornell College
Freshman - Fountain, Colo.

Stivers scored two goals to help Cornell (9-8-1 overall) claim its first winning season since 2002 with a 4-1 road victory over Beloit. Stivers capped a fine freshman campaign with 17 goals, good for fifth on the program’s single-season list. Her 42 points are sixth-most in a season at Cornell.
