2013 Women's Tennis Performers of the Week


September 3, 2013
Abigail Pellett - Carroll University
Junior - Ellensburg, Wash.

Pellett went 4-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-1 at No. 1 doubles to lead the Carroll University women’s tennis team to three victories in four matches to start the season. The Pioneers fell to Edgewood College in the opener then posted victories against University of Dubuque, Ripon College and Alverno College.

Katherine Ake - St. Norbert College
Freshman - Neenah, Wis.

Ake led St. Norbert to a 2-1 weekend after winning all six of her matches this weekend - each going 3-0 in singles and doubles action. Ake won in straight sets in all of her singles matches at No. 4 flight, including a 6-1, 6-2 win Sunday in the Green Knights’ 8-1 win Sunday over Division II St. Joseph’s. Ake teamed with two doubles partners to win all three matches handily, including an 8-0 win with Ashley Randazzo at No. 3 flight Sunday against Elmhurst.

Marisa Guggenheim - Lake Forest College
Freshman - Highland Park, Ill.

Guggenheim and the Foresters were perfect in three matches last week. She prevailed 8-2 at #3 doubles in a 9-0 victory at Beloit College on Wednesday. On Saturday she posted a 9-7 win in a 7-2 triumph over North Central College before blanking the #3 team from Ripon College 8-0 in a 9-0 victory. She also outscored her three singles opponents 36-4 in two wins at #5 and one at #2.

Audrey Brauer - Illinois College
Junior - Oakford, Ill.

Brauer was perfect over the last week, going 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles play as the Lady Blues won a pair of matches. Brauer won her No. 4 singles match (6-1, 6-0) and teamed with Zippy Abdulmalik to win the No. 2 doubles match (8-3) against Monmouth College on Wednesday. Brauer was also victorious in a No. 4 singles match against Millikin University (6-1, 6-1) on Thursday, where she teamed again with Abdulmalik to win the No. 2 doubles match (8-3). The Lady Blues are 2-1 to start the season.

Abigail Pellet - Carroll University

Pellett improved to 12-0 on the season at No. 1 singles after posting weekend victories against Carthage College and Beloit College at the top flight. The Pioneers lost 5-4 to Carthage College on Saturday but responded with a 6-3 victory over Beloit on Sunday. Pellett, a junior from Ellensburg, Wash. (Ellensburg) finished the weekend with an overall record of 3-1 after splitting her two No. 1 doubles matches with partner, Megan Rosenburg. The pair lost to Carthage but beat Beloit.

October 8, 2013
Shashanna Moll - Cornell College
Freshman - Belfast, Maine

Moll finished 7-1 overall as the Rams split four matches over the week. The freshman went 4-0 in singles, playing at the No. 1 and 2 positions, to extend her current winning streak to six matches. Moll was 3-1 at No. 1 doubles with partner Ariana Hudson. For the season, Moll owns a 21-11 overall record.

Katherine Ake - St. Norbert College
Freshman - Neenah, Wis.

Ake led St. Norbert to the MWC North Division title with four wins this past weekend, going 2-0 in singles and doubles action. Ake won her singles match against Carroll’s Samantha Hoyord 6-1, 6-1, and then topped Lawrence’s Kathleen Frankel 6-4, 6-1. Ake teamed with Maggie Berens to win her doubles matches this weekend by scores of 8-1 and 8-0. Ake is 18-1 in singles play and 14-1 in doubles action this season.
