2013 Volleyball Offensive Performers of the Week


September 3, 2013
Mollie Murdock - Setter - Monmouth College
Senior - Monmouth, Ill.

Murdock helped the Scots to a 3-0 record at the Monmouth Invitational where she was named to the all-tournament team. Murdock assisted on 42 of the Scots’ 43 kills and nailed eight ace serves in their 3-0 blanking of Robert Morris (Springfield) in the tourney opener. She then served up 38 assists in a five set win over Lincoln Christian. In the tournament finale, a 3-2 come-from-behind-win over Iowa Wesleyan, Murdock collected 49 assists. For the week, Murdock totalled 129 assists (9.92 per set) and tallied a team-best nine ace serves.

Terese Swords - Outside Hitter - Lawrence University
Sophomore - Evanston, Ill.

In two matches this past week, Swords hit .380 and piled up 30 kills. In a 3-1 victory at MSOE, Swords had 20 kills and only one attack error in 38 attempts for an impressive .500 hitting percentage. In the other match at the MSOE Triangular, a 3-1 Lawrence victory over Wisconsin Lutheran, Swords had 10 kills and a solid .242 hitting percentage. She also added eight digs and a pair of blocks in the two matches.

Kathleen O’Connor - Outside Hitter - Cornell College
Senior - Waukegan, Ill.

O’Connor became Cornell’s career kills leader (1,404) as the Rams went 4-0 at the ACM Tournament Sept. 13-14 in Decorah. She is the ninth player in Midwest Conference history to reach the 1,400-kill mark. O’Connor was named to the all-tournament team, totaling 46 kills (3.83 kps), 57 digs (4.75 dps) and 12 blocks (1.0 bps) in four matches. She also posted 20 kills and 27 digs in a five-set loss Sept. 11 at Coe. The Rams improved to 6-2 on the year.

Emily Gary - Middle Blocker - Ripon College
Sophomore - New Berlin, Wis.

Emily Gary helped Ripon take third place at the five-team Ripon Invitational over the weekend, including a win over conference-rival St. Norbert. In Ripon’s four matches, Gary recorded 56 kills (3.5 K/Set), seven digs, two service aces and 12 blocks (two solo). In the tournament, she recorded a hitting percentage of .275. That performance helped her be named to the All-Tournament Team.

Claire Weidman - Outside Hitter - Grinnell College
Junior - Flossmoor, Ill.

Weidman led the Pioneers to their first victory of the season in a three-set sweep of Knox College, and a near-win against Monmouth College where they lost in a five-set thriller. In those matches, plus contests with Waldorf College and William Penn University, she averaged 3.57 kills per set while hitting at a .194 efficiency rate. In the matches against conference foes, she averaged 3.12 digs per set.

Kathleen O’Connor - Outside Hitter - Cornell College
Senior - Waukegan, Ill.

O’Connor averaged 5.78 kills per set and hit .339 in leading the 25th-ranked Rams to a 3-0 record in Wisconsin, which included sweeps over MWC foes St. Norbert and Lawrence. O’Connor also totaled 29 digs (3.22 dps) and five blocks (0.56 bps). She was most impressive against St. Norbert, posting 21 kills and a .545 attack percentage. The Rams improved to 16-3, their best start in school history.

October 15, 2013
Diane McLeod - Setter - Lawrence University
Senior - Hartland, Wis.

McLeod led Lawrence to a pair of Midwest Conference victories in the Vikings’ only action of the week. McLeod picked up 75 assists as Lawrence won in straight sets at Ripon and again in straight sets at home against Illinois College. In the Vikings’ 25-22, 25-13, 25-22 win at Ripon, McLeod had 39 assists, four digs, three blocks and two kills. In a 25-16, 25-14, 25-17 win over the Lady Blues, McLeod picked up 36 assists, seven digs and two blocks. For the week, McLeod averaged 12.5 assists per set and helped the Vikings hit .281 as a team.

Abbi Williamson - Setter - Ripon College
Freshman - Naperville, Ill.

Williamson helped lead Ripon to victories in both their matches last week, defeating Monmouth and Knox in three sets apiece, to keep Ripon in a second place tie in the MWC standings. In the two matches, Williamson recorded 68 assists (11.33/set)and 11 kills (1.8/set). Against Knox, Williamson posted a career-high 10 kills, while recording a hitting percentage of .643. She also registered 12 digs and four blocks in the two matches combined.

Kathleen O’Connor - Outside Hitter - Cornell College
Senior - Waukegan, Ill.

O’Connor hit .275 with 34 total kills (5.67 kps) in home sweeps over MWC challengers Ripon and Carroll as the 22nd-ranked Rams clinched their second consecutive conference regular-season championship. O’Connor averaged 2.5 digs and 0.67 blocks. She hit .326 with 18 kills in the title-clinching win over Carroll. The Rams improved to 23-3 overall, 9-0 in the MWC.

Mollie Murdock - Setter - Monmouth College
Senior - Monmouth, Ill.

Murdock ended her career in style, setting the Scots’ assist record in her final weekend. The senior totaled 123 assists in four matches at last weekend’s IWU Barker Classic. Her high came in a five set loss to Simpson in which she posted 42 ofthe Scots’ 45 assists. Her career total of 3,718 assists moved her to first all-time at Monmouth, eclispsing Colleen Wilkin’s record of 3,659 which had stood since 2007.
