2013 Volleyball Defensive Performers of the Week


September 3, 2013
Kylea Weber - Libero - Cornell College
Junior - Mount Vernon, Iowa

Weber was named to the all-tournament team at the Labor Day Classic hosted by Washington-St. Louis. She led the team with 36 digs (5.14 dps) and went 34-of-36 from the service line with five aces in two matches. The Rams swept UW-Platteville and fell in four sets to No. 7 Wash U.

Kathleen Rowland - Libero - Lawrence University
Senior - Champaign, Ill.

In a pair of Lawrence victories at the MSOE Triangular, Rowland piled up 51 digs to help the Vikings to 3-1 wins over MSOE and Wisconsin Lutheran. In the win over Wisconsin Lutheran, Rowland had a season-high 29 digs and added a season-high five service aces. Rowland then picked up 22 digs and had a pair of service aces in Lawrence’s win over MSOE.

Taylor Dicus - Middle Blocker - Cornell College
Junior - Mount Vernon, Iowa

Dicus posted a team-best 18 blocks (1.06 bps) as the Rams finished a 4-1 week with a perfect 4-0 record at the ACM Tournament. The junior middle blocker moved within three total blocks of Cornell’s career record of 330. Dicus also hit .328 with 48 kills (2.82 kps) on the week.

Junior - Mount Vernon, Iowa

Weber was named to the all-tournament team in leading the Rams (10-2) to a 4-0 record at Illinois Wesleyan’s Barker Classic, which featured a five-set victory over 21st-ranked Carthage. Weber tallied 122 digs (7.62 dps) and five ace serves in the tournament. She moved into third place on Cornell’s career digs list with 1,489.

Sydney McClendon - Def. Specialist - Grinnell College
Sophomore - McPherson, Kan.

McClendon played a big part in the Pioneers’ win over Knox College and near-win against Monmouth College, averaging 7.38 digs per set and five service aces. The win against Knox, a three-set sweep, was the Pioneers’ first victory of the season and the Monmouth contest a five-set thriller.

Weber averaged 6.33 digs per set in leading the 25th-ranked Rams to a 3-0 record in Wisconsin, which included sweeps over MWC foes St. Norbert and Lawrence. Weber also fired five ace serves for the Rams, who are off to their best start in school history at 16-3.

Aubree Antosch - Def. Specialist - St. Norbert College
Freshman - Mosinee, Wis.

Antosch helped St. Norbert to a 1-1 week last week with a 3-1 loss to Carroll and a 3-0 win over Illinois College. In seven sets played, Antosch had 36 digs for a set average of 5.1 per game. Antosch totaled 21 digs against Carroll, and had 15 digs with four service aces against Illinois College.

Anika Johnson - Middle Hitter - St. Norbert College
Freshman - Green Bay, Wis.

Johnson helped St. Norbert to a 2-0 weekend with home wins over Beloit and Lake Forest, both by 3-0 scores. Johnson finished with 10 digs and three blocks against Beloit. The following day against Lake Forest, Johnson totaled a whopping eight blocks (including four solo) with eight digs.

Kylea Weber - Def. Specialist - Cornell College
Junior - Mount Vernon, Iowa

Weber tallied 46 total digs (7.67 dps) in leading the 22nd-ranked Rams to their second straight MWC regular-season title with home sweeps of Ripon and Carroll. Weber did not commit a single error on 35 reception attempts. She ranks second on Cornell’s career list with 1,737 digs. The Rams stand 23-3 overall, 9-0 in the MWC.

Taylor Dicus - Middle Blocker - Cornell College
Junior - Mount Vernon, Iowa

Dicus recorded 16 total blocks (1.6 bps) in three wins last week as the 22nd-ranked Rams finished the regular season with a 26-3 record. Nine of her stuffs came in a home sweep over UW-Platteville. Dicus added five blocks in a 3-1 win over national votes-getter Wartburg. Dicus also posted 28 kills (2.8 kps) and a .407 hitting percentage on the week. The Rams take a 14-match winning streak into the MWC Tournament.
